This is an example of what they often have to say about any OHV activities........please read, stay informed, contribute $$ to the off-road organizations fighting this propaganda, and stay involved !!

STAY INFORMED, STAY INVOLVED OR LOSE IT ALL !!

Dear ____,

Right now, pristine lands in the Southwest are being thoughtlessly trashed by off-road vehicles. The Center for Biological Diversity need your help now to put a stop to the destruction and protect wildlife.

Over the recent Thanksgiving holiday, off-road vehicle riders illegally rampaged through sensitive riparian areas and damaged historic sites on our public lands in the Mojave Desert -- while the agency charged with protecting those lands did nothing.

This out-of-control behavior trashes irreplaceable wilderness and also spills over onto adjacent private property. Despite recognition by Congress and the courts that the Mojave Desert and other wild places owned by the American people suffer from virtually unconstrained access by off-road vehicles, no concerted law-enforcement presence was on hand to stop the destruction and ticket offenders.

Please submit a letter to elected officials and other decision-makers demanding they take action to protect our public lands and wildlife from off-road vehicle damage.

Sample letter:

Subject: Stop Irresponsible Off-road Vehicle Use

Public and private lands in the Mojave Desert are once again under siege by irresponsible off-road vehicle riders. Over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, at least two precious Mojave Desert resources were severely damaged by illegal ORV activities. Much of the cleanup and restoration work that occurred in September 2009 on Public Lands Day at the Poste Homestead Historic and Natural Area has been destroyed, undoing the efforts of community volunteers and Bureau of Land Management staff to clean up and restore this area. Afton Canyon Natural Area, a desert oasis jewel and a Bureau of Land Management "area of critical environmental concern," was beset by hundreds of off-roaders who illegally churned up soils, rode off designated trails, violated trail closures, and sent dust clouds into the atmosphere that could be seen for miles. Illegal off-road vehicle activity was not limited to public lands but trespassed onto private lands as well. Law enforcement was not present to protect these irreplaceable desert resources from destruction and issue citations for actions that broke the law.

Please work together to increase enforcement against illegal off-road vehicle activities on our public lands and to fully fund law enforcement to focus on sensitive resource areas. If illegal off-road vehicle actions can not be controlled by law enforcement, then sensitive public lands must be put off-limits to all off-road vehicle use in order to rein in the mayhem and protect public and private lands.

Please take action by December 24, 2009.

Just a thought, have you forewarded this to Richard Tull ? He would probably find it alarming and could pass it up the line to other managers.

I used their system to send a response letter to Fienstein and Boxer with my own polite comments urging them to support responsible off-road use.

That's a good idea. Maybe I should do the same and suggest that something be done about the illegal aliens that leave trash, trample the vegetation and accidently start devastating wild fires, and pot growers who endanger forest areas because those are really the BIG issues.
