Thursday 12/07 ride to Anza

Late notice but, if any of you want to ride from Warner Springs to Anza tomorrow, December 07, here are the details.

The ride meeting time is 9:00am and the place is Pauma Casino http://www.casinopauma.com/contact.htm on Hwy 76 for their $1.95 breakfast Take I 15 to HYW 76, then east on HYW 76, go 10 miles or so on HYW76 past the Pala Casino to the beautiful Pauma Valley, and turn left at the Mexican Restaurant (Alberto's?) onto the short road to the Pauma Casino. If you come to Cole Grade Road on HWY 76, you have overshot the Casino by about a mile. The group will be waiting in the Casino cycle parking area up to 9am, then we will be in the Casino Restaurant in the rear to the left.

After breakfast we will leave via Hwy 76 to Lake Henshaw to Hwy 79 to Puerta La Cruz Truck Trail (dirt) up to Chihuahua Valley. Then we will use local dirt roads to get to Cooper Cienega Truck Trail (dirt) to Anza.

From Hwy 79 this is about 25 miles of dirt road. We will have a snack at Diary Queen in Anza and then head back to Cooper Cienega via an alternate dirt road out of Cahuilla on HYW 371. This ride is suitable for riders of all skill levels. If you are riding a BIG PIG B) like the GS1200, you will want to have decent off road biased dual sport tires…

NOTICE: There were originally two people joining me on this ride. One guy's bike won't run today and the other may be having difficulties too. So, I need ONE MORE willing and hot to trot rider to make this happen for sure tomorrow morning, Thursday the 7th. If not, I'll reschedule for next week with more lead time. Please RSVP here on the board or don't go to the ride without making sure it's still on.... :(. . If there are no new signups tonight or my remaining riding partner falls out, I will cancel the ride no later than 7:00 am Thursday morning.

Cheers, Stevehof

steve you bought a v-strom??? ( sweet )

jay :(

Hi Jay, Yep, I got a BigStrom. I love that thing. Upright seating like the KLR with plenty of power and very good on the twisty roads too. It will be my 'long distance' adventure touring ride....probably not much off road.... :(

Spyder, do you have any 'regularly scheduled' days off? PM me if you like. I'd like to get a weekday ride going at least every other week? I am taking my camera this morning....and may even get it out of my tank panniers once in a while... :( FYI, in case you didn't see this link before, you can see a photo of that last rocky area in Rodriquez here - http://www.mountainbikebill.com/images/Tra...-30JAN05-60.JPG

I and one other guy from another riding group did this ride today. It was about 25 miles of dirt road between Warner Springs and Anza. This is a very nice route and only mildly challenging in a few places. I'll be leading a group ride on this route and several alternate trails within this area sometime in the next few weeks. Sorry about the short notice on this ride....Cheers, Stevehof... :(

Steve,

I'd be willing to do the occasional weekday ride. Just don't tell Chief Gunner...we both work for the same place! :( Or better yet, maybe he can sneak out, too! Friday's are best.

Standing by!

Jim

for rwynant: Here's a few pics from this ride

Ed Beaver from the Yahoo 'Lost Coyotes' dual sport group at the trail head just out of Warner Springs.

This is the view north toward Anza from the top of the first hill climb about 10 miles into the ride

The view south and west back toward Chihuahua Valley. This is about 2/3 of the way through the trail

This is a telephoto view from the last hill before dropping down into the Anza Valley. The bald looking

mountain range to the left is the Big Bear area and the mountain area behind the hills on the right is

home to Idllywild and Mt San Jacinto

Hey Troy,

I am planning on doing this ride again soon. This one was mid-week and short notice. The ride area has lots of side trails and alternate routes. This area definitely needs more exploration. I'm considering Saturday the 6th of January but will post the ride announcement in a new thread when I have decided for sure on the date.

Jay, this fire road trail is not very technical. There are a couple of spots where you need to pick the right line and one moderate to easy hill climb toward the beginning. If the rains don't rut up this hill too much, it will still remain a fairly easy trip. There's a few small stretches of sand but it's not deep sand. However, the road is not boring. It hasn't been graded in several years... :o

Steve,

As a Fireman, my days off vary week to week. This is the first time in twenty six years I've had Thanksgiving and Christmas both off the same year! :o And Ill probably volunteer to work Eve or Day for the NFG's with kids anyway. After the first of the year, Ill get in touch with you and let you know my schedule. 'Til then, Im spending time with the SO (maybe some ride time two up in Az.) Whatever she wants to do....... :D

Have a Merry Christmas!

Not on this weekend the 6th. I've promised to include some folks who are not available this weekend. This ride will get posted some time within the next few weeks. I'll try to give at least several days notice.

Cheers, Steve
