Moab 5MoH trip May 15 - 18, ride report

Recommended Posts

Are you sure?....I don't think so.......I don't remember such well defined markings...

That's not the crux - The locals that we met on the trail last month called that "The wall"

It's this one:

It's probably the first difficult obstacle you have to ride...

Great pictures!!! Keep them coming! Makes me want to go back!!!

I think I could spend days just riding the twists and turns of the Sovereign Trail

Did you guys ride the singletrack from south to north? Take any of the "extreme difficult" sections?

Here is a cool tunnel we found somewhere Northwest of the Monitor and Merrimac Trail.

That's Tusher Tunnel - a cool little side trip!

You guys covered some miles!!!

Neat shots. I definitely will have to make sure I get at least one riding trip to that place.

You were just taking a nap there - no "fall" involved!

On a side note, take a look at Daryl's video of that section. In our picture, look at that slot in the rock directly behind your back tire. There's now a nice rock strategically placed in there to help you ride that spot without your tire kicking off to the left like it kept doing on us. It made that section pretty easy for Mickey and me. (once we got past the fear of falling off a 30 foot cliff if we biffed it to the left! )

Kind of from north to south. We started out at the south end right out of the Archview Campground where we were staying. Rode some of the south end of Sovereign but got mixed up in the ATV & 4X4 sections and ended up at the highway. From there we head north along the highway to the north end of the trail and then followed it south back to camp. I think we did most of the extreme sections but maybe missed some of it.

You guys covered some miles!!!

Yep, 26.5 miles doing the Sovereign in the morning on Friday and then 32 miles doing the Cotter Mine Rd, 3-D Jeep Route, Wipe-Out-Hill Route, Monitor & Merrimac, Sevenmile Rim Trails in the afternoon.

On Saturday we rode 40 miles doing the Gemini Bridges Rd, Gold Bar Rim, Golden Spike Jeep and a little of the Poison Spider Trail.

Dang, no wonder I wa so pooped on Sunday when I attempted 5 MoH!!

sorta related....for a good book about that area read Desert Solitaire by Edward Abbey..

his writing makes me long for that area....some of the things he describes, having seen them, are amazing.

these pictures are reminding me how much open area there is out in the world....now if i can just get out to it!!!!

and get away from this desk jockey position i am in now....

Blind ...doesn't recommend many books, but he REALLY liked this one. :)

LOVE the pictures!!! video was excellent quality, bit heavy load time, but good quality is worth it!

Uploaded the videos to YouTube and edited the links in the original post to reflect the changes.

Video loads much faster now, though perhaps of slightly less quality.
