More on Mexico

Recommended Posts

The outburst was part of a particularly bloody day along the nearly 2,000-mile Mexican border, with 21 people killed in 24 hours of violence involving drug traffickers and other criminal syndicates.

In Juarez, along the Texas border, the Associated Press reported four men were gunned down in front of teenagers at an amusement park. A toddler died when the car he was in crashed during a shootout. A businessman was murdered after leading a protest against criminal violence.

The Nogales bloodshed supports drug-intelligence reports that gangs have opened a new front of warfare south of Arizona's border, which for years was relatively calm because a single cartel controlled the state of Sonora. It also reflects stresses caused by a crackdown by Mexican President Felipe Calderón.

Manny Hopkins, 33, a Nogales businessman, said he saw gangsters in trucks stop near a city park and set up an ambush. As state police arrived, Hopkins said, the gunmen opened fire with AK-47s. The state police responded, and municipal officers joined in, killing two of the criminals. Hopkins' fleet of food-service trucks was riddled with bullet holes.

I don't know nuthin about nuthin, but I expect the government "trying" to crack down makes the short term situation worse...

they crack down on one group, another group rises to fill the void... not to mention a lot of "government" is INVOLVED in the activities to start with...

it'll get worse before it gets better; but it absolutely needs to be done

Maybe it's that the Mexican Government is "ON Crack" as opposed to "cracking down"?:rolleyes:

If the USA did not consume illegal drugs, we would not have all these drug traffic violence going on... And our state taxes would not have to go up in order to pay for the over crowded jails and prisons for drug related charges... We would not have to pay for Child Protective Services Dependency Court and Foster Homes for all the kids taken away from drug addicted parents, and the expense to treat all the positive tox babies with learning disabilities... And we could all ride safer in Baja... There's lots of reasons to just say NO TO DRUGS!
