WHo's riding LA-Barstow-Vegas?

Recommended Posts

Roll-call.

I am kicking it around and this might just be the first ride of the year for me... post-injuries. Naaaw, I'll have to jump on a weekend ride with the SDAR crew a few times to get my ass used to the XR's punishment saddle. I need to go over the bike and do a valve job but other than that.............

So who's locked in?

I sm planning on it, riding the Adventure Route 2-up. I have done this event the last 8 years in a row. This is the biggest Dual Sport ride of the year!

I will be there. I see the route goes through Big Bear for lunch... I bet it will be cold up there that time of year. I was there last Saturday rode from 9AM to 10:30 PM. The warmest it got was probably 65 when we got back to the truck at 10:30 it was 43 degrees.

Wow, this one looks fun to say the least. I think I'm going to plan on it. Some serious mileage to cover out there eh? Through Red ROX and all the way to Vegas! wooooOHOOOOO ! I'd better start saving my $$ now. Kevin, you're and 8x vet. Help out a newbie and give me the run down dog! This will be the longest, biggest and bestest ride I've ever been on for sure (by far). I guess I'm not worried about much. Weather/temp will be a factor though I imagine . . .

RALLY UP SDAR, let's do it as a team!

RIDE ON !

I've wanted to do this one for like 15 years. It is the biggest and bestest ride ever, hands down. I REALLY want to do it this year but I don't think I'll be able to swing it. I'm saving now and I'm going to plan on it but will let you all know a few days before the early registration cutoff.

San Bernardino to Las Vegas? Two days? You mean we spend the night camping out? Don't get it... I guess I would need my wife to drive me to San Bernardino and pick me up in Las Vegas... I don't think I want to drive freeway on my TE450 with enduro seat... Well... Sounds like a great ride, but not sure I got the right bike due to the long distances getting to San Bernardino etc. ...I shure want to wait until upcoming year before bying a bigger second bike...

Start off at Chapparal in San Berdu for a little bit of tarmac and go up into Big Bear via dirt for lunch and gas top off (provided in your entry fee) Then head down the mntn and end the first day in Barstow. Catch some zzz's at one of the hotels (Ramada is the main hub for the event and is most likely booked solid already) but there are a handful of others in the area. Day two heads out into the desert off towards Lost Wages and finish is at the Orleans hotel/casino. Big afterparty there.

I have never run this grandaddy of DS rides but am still seeing if I can put it together. If I do, I'd like to hook up with a group to ride with and figure out how to get ourselves and the bikes back from Vegas.

I feel ya about not wanting to ride too much highway. My XR650R with stock seat is the same feeling after too much continuous road action.Your TE with a des tank is a great bike for the ride itself though.

Just to make sure that if I do make it, I locked in my room in Barstow ($60 something)at the Days Inn- 2 queen beds and a room at the Orleans - 2 king beds($129). I didnt want to resort to sleeping in the dirt and no showers for two days.

I'm planning on doing the regular dirt route for LA-B-V. I'll probably ride up also, because this removes the logistics necessary for getting your bike up to LA, then your truck to Barstow and then Vegas.

If you have someone to drive your truck up, that is the way to do it. You ride all day, and they meet you at the motel in Barstow, then the Orleans Hotel in Vegas, then you load up and drive home on Sunday.

This is a great, long 2 day ride, and it's a tradition to many riders. Hopefully we can get a small contingent of San Diego Adventure Riders on the ride, and ride together !!

I am set up with reservations. I too will be riding my bike up and back from Vegas as I Always do. I probably will be riding the easier Big Adventure route this year. as for I have done all the other routes in years past. For those of you with logistics issues, you can always truck your bike to Barstow, then ride to L.A.(two hours. Then, after the ride, you can ride back to Barstow from Vegas(3 hours) to your truck! Just remember, you will be riding about 250 miles a day, so get up early and get riding!! Kev

Yes, the sissy route (unless someone dares me) this year, that way I can be the first to the bar!!!! I will get with you as so to coordinate the ride up and back and motel info(unless you are to good to ride with people that are on the sissy route). Kev

For anyone who has not set up reservations....heads up. I was late in getting my reservations set but I managed a room at the Comfort inn in Barstow (the Ramada is full) and I also had to settle for a room at the Orleans at the regular rate($140 bucks) they are not giving an AMA discount because the "Block" for the ride is full.

Here's my proposition for everyone that is riding. I am sure that I can swing the financial crunch to make this ride happen considering the mods that'll need to happen before I'd take my bike out on this ride. Bigger gas tank, skid plate, new rear tire and a few others I've forgotten right now. I'm still trying to make sure I can get the time off from work.

Pyro said it already, "let's do it as a team" this can take some burden of planning and preparing off of each individual and apply it to the collective whole. As a team we won't all need to carry our own spare parts bin for the entire ride but each of us can take a few parts for the rest of us to feed from if needed....am I making any sense. Ideas, input anyone?

I haven't looked at a room in Barstow yet but might look into it, if somebody has a spare bed, patch of carpet or bathtub I could sleep in that'd be cool. As far as Vegas rooms go this my payback to the team. My employer has and maintains an apartment in North Las Vegas. It is 8 miles due north of the Orleans and has 4 double beds. I am planning to stay there and whomever else would like to join me untill the beds, couch and carpet are full is welcome to join in.

I am also not interested in riding I-15 all the way back to SD, I've heard people have ridden the course backwards to the starting area and I think thats what I'm leaning towards. I think this would also require Monday off or a marathon ride Sunday ;) . Any ideas from anyone, or someone that would truck my bike to SD with their's? Donations can be made toward your expenses.

Jon

I could pull any size trailer back from Vegas ,with bikes on it .. however the cab is all full ,so you would have to find a way home,...anyone have a trailer,(maybe a large one ?);) ? otherwise we will have to rent one. oh well theres plenty of time to put it together ,I will do what I can............. I was offered a ride back from Vegas but getting up there to the starting point is a concern, I am not liking the idea of dealing with the high winds and maniac drivers on the 15 from here to San Bernadino. The XR is a great bike but as we all know a long Highway ride like that on a 325lb bike is probably an un-necesary risk my wife and kids do not want me to take.

Here is a thought, I would be willing to drive my 4Runner with a trailer that has room for 2 more bikes and 3 people from Lakeside to San Bernadino.

Do any of you have a significant other or a good friend who might be willing to drive my 4Runner from San Bernadino to Barstow then to Vegas? Then I can drive us all home?

Since we have to be there at 6 A.M on Friday it will be a real early day for those departing. We can work out the details later.

Any takers?
