New(ish) Member - Ideas for Trails in Corral Canyon or Elsewhere

Recommended Posts

Hi All!

I am new to dirt biking. Just starting off with my son (13). We've been going out to Ocotillo. Looking for an easy, mellow ride that my son and I can do on a trail (something with harder packed dirt than out at Ocotillo). Nothing technical, just want to be able to cruise, help my son learn his bike. Maybe it isn't Corral, if not, can you recommend something. Really appreciate the help.

Thanks!!

Corral is good, pine valley is another option.

Look up McCain, lost of sand near staging area but get up one hill and can be on hardpack for miles

McCain is not easy, unless we are talking about main road only.

Up north, Nate Harrison Road going up to Palomar Mountain is one of my favorites. If you are ok with sand, there are a couple of nice desert tracks near Borrego Springs and Anza-Borrego desert.

Boulder Creek Road is also a great option, as Otay Mountain Truck Trail.

Take a look at Old gpsKevin's website. It has a lot of stuff, and some still relevant for San Diego area

Also, shameless plug and disclaimer, I'm the owner of SoCal Off-road School. We offer ADV and Enduro classes. They are held on private property, and the trails are super fun.

Yeah, I am not a fan of the sand (yet, at least). I'll be cruising around at Plaster City and out of nowhere I'll hit 2 feet of sand and I am very much less than happy. My son just charges through it, but, I'm older and it freaks me out. It just grabs my bars and my bike digs in. I guess it'll take some time to learn.
