Some of you may want to service your own bike and maybe can save a few bucks by doing it yourself..Below are suggested places to clean and lube, your caliper may be slightly different.... This first part you may want to do on your bike ...loosen it up. You may only see a cap, remove it with a regular screwdriver. Remove the pad fastener bolt. Notice the pad position . Remove completely the pad stabilzing fastener bolt, being aware of the positioning arrangement. Pop out the slider bolt, it needs to be cleaned and lubed with factory spec disc brake grease (not rotella) or graphite lube. I use M-77 from Honda . Here is the other pin that the caliper floats side to side on, after cleaning it, make sure it's clean inside the boot, apply lube into that boot, just a lil bit. Next step is to clean the caliper piston with WD to keep the seal in shape. Use old pads, press piston back into caliper , twist regular screwdriver. If you see purple or blue discoloration on rotor, that is high temperature brake pad glaze transfer from high temps, and could be cleaned off. Ace had some 80 grit. I had fun doing it by hand . Took about 5-7 mins. Power tool would been easier. Closer inspection reveals fastener bolt has a wear point from abuse, possibly hanging up a brake pad and could be cleaned up before it's put back together. No grease on this because dirt would stick to it. Dry graphite ok. Here's where you can see one pad has more pressure and wear applied to it , and how dry and need of service, the slider bolt can get... Going with EBC factory replacement pad . There's a juggling act at the end putting the axle in and the brake pads over the rotor. Right before this photo, I had to quit and walk away for ten minutes and grab an ice water, chill, relax, ponder about riding, experienced motorcycle Zen, then went back to it, and it all slid together with no effort.
