Covered in Dust 162 Posted October 3, 2018 Had an interesting thing happen on my ride in Colorado. I had my Delorme off in my tank bag and my Spot on so my wife could track me. Somehow my Delorme turned on in my bag from being bounced around then the SOS was activated. They tried to contact my wife but she didn’t answer the call then they contacted my sister. My sister called my wife Annette in a panic. Annette went online to my Spot tracker and saw that I was riding along at 60 mph so she was pretty sure I was fine. She contacted Delorme and told them my Spot showed that I was moving and everything looked fine. Delorme was reluctant to cancel the SOS but she assured them that I was moving . All this happened within about 10 minutes of the SOS being activated. I didn’t find out about this until I called my wife later that evening. I then got my Delorme out of my tank bag and the battery was dead so I couldn’t even cancel the SOS. I plugged in in to charge and after a few minutes hit cancel SOS and then called Delorme with the number my wife had texted me and confirmed that I wanted to cancel the SOS. They said that this type of thing happens from time to time with these devices. I what been planning on dropping my Spot but in this case it was very good that I had it running or my wife would have been in a panic for hours and some agency would have been out looking for me. Could/should have taken longer but we were trying to beat the rain. Got just a little rain on the way back to the truck. The bottom half was fantastic with the fall colors. MacDuncan 131 Posted October 4, 2018 Wow CID, the odds are astronomical that the delorme could do that, hell, that must have been bouncing around like crazy! Heck, an exact bonk to hit the safety lock off, and a bonk to hit the power on, and a bonk to move the screen choice and the nav button to choose a different menu item, and then back to another button again to signal ok, and then the sos button, all in sequential order. Holy Toledo. Go to a casino as soon as possible - haha. Glad you are ok. I don't even recall a section that bumpy on the BDRCO, except maybe just out of leadville BP brings up a good point, as it would seem that delorme responders would see GPS movement... but I guess if I was beat up or broken from a bif, but could still ride, I would get closer to a town or easier access point for help if I could (not a lot of ambulances are 4 wheel drive). Kinda worrisome that the device lost power eventually, as that would be bad if needing to be rescued, and I think the delorme doesn't have a mobile charge attachment for a 12 volt adapter (or does it??) Colors must have been great, cool weather too, looking forward to some pics.
