mtnmanseth 0 Posted January 6, 2014 Hi all, I'm prepping for the weekend in Ocotillo Wells and have some new Dunlop 606s to install on my DR. I have the wheels off the bike but decided long ago that tire changing is NOT something I ever, ever want to do again. I'll do everything else, but wrestling a tire onto a rim with hand tools (twice) ain't how I want to spend my evening. I live in Encinitas and work in Del Mar and I'm looking for a shop or savvy individual (with tools) to swap my tires. Any suggestions? Thank you in advance! mtnmanseth 0 Posted January 6, 2014 I'll keep this in my back pocket, though...
bikeslut 1 Posted January 6, 2014 I know this is not what you want to hear...but the more you do it, the easier it is. That being said; a 606 has a stiff sidewall, and is not the easiest to change Add in a UHD tube (known as a tire within a tire) and it can be a pain If I was closer, I'd come help you out...if you pull the rim, most smaller shops will do it for $25 or so
mtnmanseth 0 Posted January 6, 2014 I just bought a Bead Buddy II off Amazon for $12 including shipping. Maybe you're right, I really should get better at it. Especially because there are apparently ZERO motorcycle shops between Del Mar and Encinitas, California. Odd. Thanks for the offer to help, bikeslut, if you were closer I would buy the beer and pizza. Thanks again.

vanjoosten 4 Posted January 6, 2014 There is Moorland (I think) Choppers next to Mitch's on the 101 in Solana Beach. They may look at you funny bringing in a knobby, but I'm sure they can swap out a tire.
Wintyfresh 46 Posted January 6, 2014 I live in Encinitas. If you need some help let me know. Pm me your # and address. I'm also in Encinitas and have a kauritmoto tool I'm willing to lend for the job. [Edit: Whoops, just noticed you've got a 17mm axle so it won't be all that useful to you.]

Maybe PM me? I could use a little assistance this time. Let's get it done! I'll bring the beer... Thanks

Oracle 195 Posted January 7, 2014 Seriously, you don't need all those fancy tools. All you need is a nice pair of tire spoons, your knees, and knowledge of the technique that makes changing a tire reasonably doable.

They may look at you funny bringing in a knobby, but I'm sure they can swap out a tire. Not True....Yes they are Red and White support but I go to Glamis and Ocotillo Wells with them. last weekend Ken and Brenda Moreland spent the weekend off roading their 4X4s in Corral Canyon. Good peeps and if you look hard there are XRs and DRZs around in the shop. I use North County Cycles or Motorcycle salvage in Escondido..$20 bucks.
mtnmanseth 0 Posted January 8, 2014 Just want to say thanks to ADV Bum for helping me install my new tires last night! Was it fun? Nope. Easy? Nay. Fingers sore today? A little. Good practice? Definitely! I learned what additional tools I'll need to carry and feel pretty competent changing brand new stiff-as-hell D606s in the cold. Next time, though, I'm having a shop do it Thanks again to Bum and all others for the advice and guidance! Cheers

I have not changed a tubed tire in a while since going to tubliss. Still a pain the ass. We pinched the first front. Thanks for the good beer!

556baller 0 Posted March 29, 2014 I've been using Oceanside Cycle Supply. Nice people, I purchased parts, gear, and had tires mounted by them. You can also use Cycle Gear in San Marcos, the staff knows their stuff and then some.
