Dang - looks like we got our riding in just in time. I thought the rain would've helped things.

The FS website confirms it. From: http://www.fs.fed.us/r5/cleveland/fire/for...eme/index.shtml

The Cleveland National Forest is currently in Extreme fire danger.

Spark arrestors are required for all off-highway vehicles, chainsaws, and other internal combustible equipment. The following OHV areas are CLOSED:

Descanso Ranger District

Corral Canyon

Bear Valley OHV

Four Corners OHV Staging Area

Bobcat Meadow OHV

Trabuco Ranger District

Wildomore OHV

And further down the page:

The following areas and gates are closed:

Corral Canyon /Bear Valley OHV (Forest Road 17S04)

Pine Creek Wilderness

Hauser Wilderness

Road to Corral Canyon OHV area

Bear Valley Road (Forest Road 16S12)

Lower & Upper Kitchen Creek Road (Forest Road 15S17)

Trabuco Ranger District gates:

Trails closed:

Pacific Crest Trail south of Boulder Oaks Campground.

All trails in OHV areas.

Check with the District you are visiting for other trail closures.

Looks like I got my exploring in on the Palomar Divide road just in time also.

Hmm... Anyone up for the desert this weekend??? I think it might still be open...

It was in the newspaper today about the closure. Hopefully we'll get some rain soon.

I have never seen McCain Valley closed for fire safety reasons.

Maybe I'll take the XR650L out there and pretend like I'm a trials rider!!!

Yeah - I can double-blip a 350+ lb dualsport.... NOT !!!!

Actually, that might be a good half day ride - Hmmm....

This could put a squish to the night ride? What do ya think?

That's still like 3 weeks away. We'd better get to some rain dancing!!!

It is supposed to be a high of 89 in Campo/Jacumba area and 105 down on the desert floor. I should have a bike up and running by then. I would be up for a ride. :( Ken

Got a bunch of domestic chores and things to do this weekend but it will start cooling off soon enough for us all to get together in large groups out there in the desert to have some good times.

I am looking forward to a great season of riding out there!

The desert is the only place besides the many times I have been in the middle of the Pacific Ocean where the night sky, the stars and the air are so clear and bright that it just puts the mind at ease like nothing else.

I'm thinking pretty seriously about dirt dame's idea - McCain Valley/Lark Canyon. Place is like a mini-track, lots of fun and my son can tag along. Then again - if we can swing a full day kitchen pass, Lake Arrowhead is just about the same length of drive from San Marcos. Hmmm...

But I really should stop hijacking this thread.

:D
