    RIP Schwinn

Damn it! Very sad to hear he lost the battle. Yes, Schwinn will be missed. I will have to take the kids out and get some Nemo's cakes for dessert. Condolences to his family. If anyone knows of the funeral plans please post up or let me know. RIP Schwinn!

    Hand Held Radio Class

Monthly "Communicator Gateway" Workshop Date: Saturday, November 11, 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Location: Scripps La Jolla Hospital Campus in San Diego (Schaetzel Center Building, next to the main hospital building, ground floor, in the Noble Room) Parking: Park in underground parking or in the above-ground parking structure. (At the workshop, please ask for the parking validation procedure.) Map: https://www.google.com/maps/place/Scripps+Memorial+Hospital+La+Jolla (To help you locate the Workshop location on the hospital campus, attached to this email is a photo with the building marked. When you enter the building, look for people wearing yellow shirts.) ATTENTION people of all ages interested in Ham Radio (licensed, not licensed, or out of practice)! San Diego Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES) will conduct another FREE monthly workshop to help participants "Get On The Air" (GOTA). Everyone is welcome regardless of club or organization affiliation! This two-hour workshop is intended for anyone getting started (or struggling) with a handheld "HT" radio. If you attended in the past, you are welcome to return for another workshop to hone your skills. If you have an earlier edition of the free workbook, please bring it with you to this workshop. The workshop starts with basics, such as how to turn on the radio, and then progresses to operating in simplex and repeater mode. This is a hands-on workshop in small groups led by Elmers (instructors), not a lecture. Participants receive a free workbook to guide their progress. What to bring: 1. A handheld radio, if you have one or can borrow one. Elmers will have a few loaners available. We recommend a dual band 2m/70cm (VHF/UHF) handheld transceiver (HT). 2. The operating manual for your radio. Please bring the entire manual - either paper copy or on a tablet. 3. A pen, and a few paper clips or stickies to tab pages in your operating manual during the workshop. 4. If your HT is the Baofeng UV-5R (or other model Baofeng), please visit the web site www.miklor.com, print, and then bring to class copies of the documents: "On the Fly Keyboard Programming." This workshop follows the regularly-scheduled ARES meeting. If you plan to attend the workshop, please RSVP to k6rjf.rob@gmail.com so we know how many study guides to produce, or if you have a specific interest or question. When you RSVP, please tell us which radio you will bring, and please include your call sign (if you have a call sign). The most common radios (HTs) brought to this workshop are: Yaesu FT-60 and Baofeng UV-5R. Occasionally students bring the Yaesu FT-65, Yaesu FT-1, Yaesu FT-2, Wouxun, Kenwood, Icom, and Baofeng models other than the UV-5R. We teach each model radio in a different group and use your RSVP to arrange the workshop. Thank you. . . . Rob K6RJF Assistant Section Manager (Training) P.S. If you changed your call sign or email address, please send updated contact info to k6rjf.rob@gmail.com. To unsubscribe from monthly Communicator Gateway announcements, please reply to k6rjf.rob@gmail.com.

    Moto Forza Social Event

  6. Thanks Mikki and welcome to the group. I did hear from many that this might of been their best weekend riding in the desert. As Mikki stated, he turned in a fender bag with tools. If this is belongs to you then please message me.
  7. Sorry for delay. I got home with not Internet. New lines being installed due to development across the street. Huge thanks to all our volunteers. Sweep teams, Support Vehicles and camp volunteers did a great job. Pre registration was really light, probably due to weather concerns, but lots of walk ins. Conditions turned out to be FANTASTIC! Food was amazing. Our sponsors gave us great support providing us with nice raffle prizes. Escondido BMW, Moto Forza, San Diego BMW, Veys Powersports, Motoworld of El Cajon, GP motorcycles, Temecula Motorsports, Rocky Mountain ATV, Cycle Gear, Escondido Cycle Center and Top Value Tire. People who decided not to show really did miss out. Everyone I talked to said the conditions made for the best riding they had done in the desert ever. They experienced light snow to amazing sand conditions. I myself was very jealous as I was driving my truck down fish creek. Thank you to all my volunteers and to all who participated. The businesses I visited commented that it must of been Dualsport day. They commented on how great the Dualsport people are I really hope to see everyone next year as we plan to dial it up and make more improvements. Thanks again.

  10. More than welcome to show up FRI evening. I feel that many people were holding off to see what the weather was going to do. I have ordered plenty of extra just in case we get slammed with walk ups. Thanks for coming out!
  11. Please come and join us for our 16th Annual Desert Dash. We have added an additional route for those who do not want to do Pinyon trail (aka, The Squeeze and Heart Attack Hill). The optional route will go down Diablo Dropoff. We have a great new caterer and we will be offering a choice of Chicken or Steak with side choices. More Sponsors with more raffle prizes this year. http://www.sandiegoadventureriders.com/DesertDash2019.pdf 2019 SDAR FLYER final'.pdf
  12. It should not impact the ride on Sat. Should be sunny Fri, Sat and Sun. I can only imagine that IF there is snow on WED/ Thurs morning it will be gone on FRI. I try not to go through Julian. I go out the 79 to the S2 as it is an easier route with the toyhauler.

CPR First Aid/ Responder class Sun Feb 10-2019

Huge thanks to Huntndogs, his wife and the instructor Phil. Huntndogs and his wife for doing so much in hosting this event and making it so nice. Phil did a great job as the instructor and I learned a lot. Thank you to the volunteers who showed up. Knowing most of our crew is certified and up to date with basic cpr/ first aid is a good feeling. Phil told me that our group was a great group and really paid attention. Even my son who bitched and moaned because I "Made Him" go was happy he went and thanked me for taking him. We even made his Basketball tryouts after. We will try to do this as an annual event. Thanks again to everyone!
