High Mileage Tires for street use

Recommended Posts

This tire will hopefully be the answer to getting more mileage out of my bike

Pirelli claims it broke some distance records.

Its the Pirelli ST Angel 180/55/17 for my ZX 1200

I had a answering poll up for about 2 hours, got about 15 replies. Then erased it

Was it brass, like a fireman's pole?

A Fireman's answer pole is brass? :) Now what type of mileage do you expect...from the tire not the firemans brass pole?

Changed the oil, New brakes, New back tire, washed the bike and now if the rain will stop.

Steve... he's bustin your chops... a POLL is asking people for their opinions... a POLE is what Jon dances on after one too many Long Island Iced Teas

Hope that tire works out for ya... your other idea was...uh... let's say, as somebody that cares about... your sandwiches... not the best idea...

OK- The Pirelli was doing good and since I ride 150 miles a day 5 days a week I look at my tires before getting on my bike. I checked it at work and then looked at it at home and this is what I found. It looked like it had alot of tread left but it came with no warning bars to begin with.

So for now I went back to the Dunlop SportMax RoadSmart 180/55/17. I bought the Pirelli on 3-6-10 and replcaed it on 7-6-10. Im only riding this bike on the Frwy and burning a big fat flat bald spot down the middle and the sides look brand new. I guess I shouldnt complain cuz if you do the math Im getting about 12000 miles on the back tire.

I am still thinking about crossing over to the "Darkside" and putting on a car tire on the back.

Thats my new Dunlop on now.

maybe find the scenic route to work so you can ride on the edges of the tire a little more?????

I run Michelin Pilot Road 2's on my VFR. I've only put around 6000 miles on so far (mostly freeway), but they still look pretty good. A little flat in the middle, but that's to be expected. Hopefully I can sell it before I need a new set. I really want that Tuono after riding my friend's.

Darkside, darkside!

You'll pay half as much for a tire and it'll last 3x as long.

Just don't expect it to carve corners like it does now, but otherwise what have you got to lose?

Putting a car tire on a luxo-barge or on a mega-cruiser is one thing

Putting one on a sport tourer is just sad...

If you want a decent (primarily freeway/center riding) tire try the ME880. They are designed for bikes like the BMW LT; not alot of grip on the edges, but the center will last forever.

If you want something a little more "spirited" I get 8k on my GSA out of a Distanza

A good friend of mine went to the darkside with his Goldwing. The tire is also a runflat. He can still hit the curves when he wants to and those tires run forever. Price is not that bad either. But the Goldwing is a touring bike, probably weighs twice as much as a sport tourer does.
