We met in Ramona at aprox 8:30. Met Cardiffchris and TodH. Never met either one but both turned out to be pretty cool. Headed out the black canyon trail to I believe mesa grande trail. Cardiffchris lead on his Suzuki 250. He goes pretty good on that thing. TodH seemed to be a very skilled rider as well. We then headed out to the back side of Palomar mountain. On the way we had seen a group of DS riders gather at Lost canyon rd. Turned of to see who they were. They were the Lost coyotes. Lead by Stevehof. We kept on our way to Palomar mt. We had a nice ride all the way up. We started back down and thats when the chit hit the fan! I blew a back tire once again. Tried to put air in but the tube was having none of that. Went to change the tire and NO SPOONS! Left them at home when I was working on my other tires. NO ONE had any spoons *uck!!! So with the rim lock holding the tire on I decided to trash the tire(baldini ) and ride it out. That made for an exciting ride all the way back to Werner springs gas station. Witnesses say that tire was smokin. Chris and Tod finished the ride back to the trucks while I waited at the gas station. I must have seen 100 motorcycles stop or go buy while waiting. About 5 felt the need to come and worn me about the flat I had! Tod came back with his truck. We loaded up and took me back. Thanks Tod!

As far as the tube issue was concerned, I am trying to figure out what happened. We figured out on the trail that the leak was at the rimlock. Now on someones advice(HAMMER) I had significantly lowered my air pressure. As we were not in the sand and I was having fun jumping every thing I could, I must of either landed on the spot with the rimlock or hit a object at that spot. Maybe it is just my weight(Never). I will cut the tire off the rim and analyze further.

I learned something again on this ride. Use the tools in your pack to fix your bike. Know you can and leave them there. I will now buy a second set of spoons, like I have for all the other tools for home.

One more thing. The term "No one gets left behind" is great. At this point I am about to change my handle to NO 1. Damn it!!!

Tire Balls work great for off road but will disintegrate after too many miles on the pavement due to heat. Definitely not recommended for a guy like Mike who gets on it riding tarmac on a heavy Dual Sport bike.(I followed*tried* you up ECR in my truck Friday after our meeting and wanted to see you made your destination. I lost you after La Costa)

I decided to go to nchouse of Motorcycles anyways. Wind in fresh road rash hurts! They were very impressed with the carnage! I had never met Mescalero until friday. He came over to see if I needed help after I had laid the bike down on the street. In shorts. My knees took some serious damage. Not a good couple of days for the bum! Damn it!!!

 I was only joking. I cant remember the last time I got a flat or ripped a valve stem off a tube. I run 12- 14 pounds. I rip knobs off tires all the time on my CR500 I never ride bald tires .Maybe fresh knobs prevent pinch flats. What tire pressure do you guys run front and rear. I dont run heavy tubes eather Too much extra un sprung weight. I hope I dont jinx myself. Hey bum dont get hurt before the dash . I have run ful knobs on the pavment on the baja 500 coarse at around 100 mph on tarmak and dirt but havnt had problems with tire temps or air pressure you goys have me worried though.

Hey 650Bum, after you let air out of your tires, did you check to see if the valve needle sealed afterwards ? You may have had a slow leak and didn't know it.

After letting air out, or adding air, I ALWAYS put spit on the valve needle to see if it sealed. I have seen them hang up and not seal after using them, especially if you run slime in the tubes.

650bum, you need to stop crashing, and riding in shorts ?? :o:unsure:

My last set of tires were Perelli MT-21s. I ran 12-15 rear, 15-18 front. Depending on where I was riding.

I have never had a pinch flat or a torn valve stem on my DRZ, but I am old and slow. I will have to see where the new tires like there pressure at. I don't run slime or very thick tubes. Yesterday I finally put a rim lock on the front. Ken

Rim locks are actually more important on the rear, where the power is. The purpose is to prevent the tire from spinning on the rim and ripping the valve stem out, which is much more likely to happen on the rear where the power is.

ridin all that way with that rear end slewing from one side to the other was a handful to say the least. that was some good riding.

Bum, I know you normally "carry" (tools that is), but good reminder on keeping stuff on the bike to prevent forgetting to pack important stuff. I've never forgotten anything...

...'cept maybe a pump once. One time a gauge, a masterlink for the chain, and a cellphone... :o

xr650l bum on a ride where we probably had at least 10 spoons available... :P

I run my tires way too hard (18/22). I know that. But my goal is to be able to handle my big bike 2UP when the unexpected surface happens on a long tour with full street pressure (constrution zone, gravel parking lot etc.) I wouldn't recommend it, but it has helped in a few situations.

The other side of ridiculous is to run MX racing pressure. You'll have better traction, but the tortoise is gonna kick your butt out there while your changing your tube (or worse). Of course, some of you could change your tube three times and I still might not catch up...

But seriously, when your out dual-sporting, not near the garage or the pit crew... you gonna run pressure to win the race, or finish the ride?

I think its better to be patching a tube than crashing because you have no traction.Even if you are riding slow there are situations were traction is important to staying upright. I have onlybeen on a few duel sport rides and every time traction is a key factor to making a section the guys riding over inflated tires and street tires crashed repetedly. I feel like I should leave my spoons at home to make more room for a bigger first aid kit. I never realy use a gauge I run my tires soft enough to have some give to them but hard enough that they dont roll on the rim during hard cornering .hard enough not to pinch on squared of bumps and rocks
