sdmxr 0 Posted August 1, 2013 I'm looking to take my 7yr old, who recently started riding a CRF50, tent camping in Big Bear in the next week or so for a couple of days. Any suggestions on where to stay? I would like to be able to ride easy trails from camp - showers, electrical would be nice too. Thanks for any input. sdmxr

dirt dame 561 Posted August 1, 2013 Plenty of camping out of Fawnskin. There is yellow stake camping on some of the dirt roads and there is a large campground just south of Fawnskin. Here is a link to information on all the campgrounds. http://www.forestcamping.com/dow/pacficsw/sanb.htm http://www.fs.usda.gov/activity/sbnf/recreation/ohv/?recid=26225&actid=

Steve S. 0 Posted August 2, 2013 Unfortunately I believe most of the forest roads around Big Bear require street legal plated bikes. There is an OHV park at Cactus Flats where non-plated MC and ATVs can be used -- and I think you can camp there. This is just off the 18 as you head north from Big Bear and start down hill towards the Lucern Valley. The Big Bear Discovery Center on the north side of the lake provides a free paper map that shows the various forest roads, trails and the OHV park along with their restrictions. You will also need a forest service Adventure Pass (available from the Discovery Center or other sporting goods stores) in order to park your car/truck at the OHV park or out on the forest roads. The Discover Center would be the best place to start for info on restrictions, open/closed areas, etc. Their number is (909) 382-2790. Big Bear is addicting... have fun and many happy returns! dsfox 0 Posted August 2, 2013 you can camp at big pine flats or crab flats campgrounds...no showers, but water spickets, etc..... and there is an ohv road that runs between these...MUCH nicer this time of year than cactus flats, which is dry and more desert like...and HOT. there are a bunch of ohv trails out of PINNACLES staging area, closer to silverwood lake also.... those are your best bets for ohv.... You can go to san bern nat. forest site, and download the motor use map, shows all ohv options..... good luck, have fun...
