Recommended Posts

I have driven by this new shop every day for the last couple of weeks and finaly had some time to stop.

I like the looks of the Aprilia. The exaust looks like it would heat up the rear shock. I think parts would fall off this bike daily.:lol:

I personally don't like the looks... I heard that the RXV5.5 is much more powerful and faster than your CR500... However, I have heard in thumpertalk forums some questions about reliability (would not be as dependable as your XR650L for sure  ).. They also sell it at GP San Diego.. is not street legal... but if you want fast and powerful, are mechanically oriented to make mods and fix it up, then it's supposed to be a great bike... not to my liking... I have to be careful not to be overly critical of Aprilia since they produced my BMW G650X (under design and strict control from BMW).. I was never told this when I got my G650X. I like my G650X (great quality)... in further exploration, the F650 GS (and Dakar) where produced at the Aprilia factory in Italy (near venice) many years, and then BMW moved production to Germany...

I read it was close to a( CR 500.) The 550. For the money a smart man would buy the Service Honda 500. It cost the same but would save thousands in the long run. And is par with the 650L in reliability.

because I am impartial, and a fan of MOST on two wheels, I will take one of each please, and report back my findings to the group...

That's not your bike, is it?

John Deykes, my friend who we are helping sponsor for the Dakar Rally in 2008, is racing the Aprilia 450 twin. I know he's done his homework before choosing a bike to race. I also hooked him up with one of the guys from the Desert Dash, who drove a chase truck in the Dakar last year and got to know the Aprilia Team mechanics really well, so he is helping John get in touch with those Mechanics for advice.

the bikes have a ton of problems. They have coolent run into the motor oil somehow, the maps restrict the performance of the engine way to much, the power is on the top end so if you like to lug the bike, this bike isn't good for it. some of the motorcycles don't have any problems but most of them, they do. They are expensive and if you break it you will be looking at 2 months to get it fixed. I was REALLY interested in buying one until I did my research... and I'm not going to get one now.lol I went on aprilias forums and talked to some of the guys that have bought the motorcycles and they said they would have rather bought the 525 or 450 ktm exc's.
