Desert Dash Confirmation & E-Mails

Recommended Posts

For all entering the Desert Dash, you will be getting confirmation e-mails shortly, and all this info (and more) will be in the e-mail. PLEASE get your entries in NOW, we're almost SOLD OUT !

February 25-26, 2012

Registration/sign-in is at the Front Lobby next to the office at Butterfield Ranch RV Park, and the Start/Finish is at Butterfield Ranch.

When you receive your rider info packet (manila envelope) with Rollcharts & RIDE INFO SHEET at sign-in, YOU MUST READ the RIDE INFORMATION SHEET which has important info about the ride, emergency contact numbers, gas info & GPS track info, and also LUNCH TICKETS for Saturday FREE LUNCH.

We will be doing something different this year....on your ride info sheet, there will be instructions on what you need to do as you exit the starting point so that we know you read your ride info sheet. We will be checking riders thru a checkpoint as you leave the campground, and if you didn't read the ride info sheet, you won't have what you need to leave the campground, so you will be asked to go back and read it before we let you exit the campground / starting point.

If you have a GPS, please bring it and your download cable since we have GPS tracks for the ride. Downloads are in .gpx format, so that should work for most or all GPS brands.

Your bike must be street legal and meet D.O.T. requirements, this means DOT tires also. Anza Borrego State Park Rangers have been enforcing DOT equipment on bikes within the Park, especially tires. You can be asked to leave the State Park if you don't have DOT tires or equipment. Also, you're risking a ticket if you are not DOT. Please, if you get stopped by a Ranger, don't give them an attitude, please be courteous....they are just doing their job, and WE have a good relationship with the State Park and the Rangers.

Also, the Saturday dinner at the Butterfield Ranch Clubhouse starts about 5:30/6pm, and the raffle giveaway at 7pm. Don't miss the raffle giveaway, we always have lots of great merchandise to give away.

Reminders:

•Maximum mileage on Saturday between gas stops is about 70 miles, if you do the difficult GPS Only Options, mileage between gas will be closer to 90 miles on Saturday.

•Maximum mileage on Sunday between gas stops is 95 miles, with a POSSIBLE option for emergency gas, but we're not sure it will be available. Please make sure your bike can do 70 to 95 miles between gas, or carry your own extra gas in appropriate containers.

•Bring a gas can with gas to fill up your bikes Sunday morning.

•The ride passes thru many areas where there may be other vehicles, 4x4's, and some OHV Areas with other off-road traffic. Please be aware that there may be oncoming vehicles or cross traffic at any time on the ride.

•Saturday lunch at Johnson's Landing in Salton City...free cheeseburger or hot dog & chips included, you must buy your own drink. Please tip the waitresses as if you were paying for your lunch at Johnson's Landing.

•Sunday Lunch provided by Brown Bag Sandwich Company at Christmas Circle in Borrego Springs...sandwiches, snacks and drinks.

LAST RIDER out by 7:45am each day. If you're not out by then, you will be behind the sweep riders and you will be on your own.

IMPORTANT:

Please, no cutting corners in the sandwashes or on trails within Anza Borrego Desert State Park. PLEASE STAY WITHIN THE JEEP TRACKS in all sandwashes, stay on all designated trails. I know, you're thinking it's only a sandwash...BUT, it rarely rains there, so our tracks may be visible for months, or even a year ! Please help us keep the park in nice condition, by staying within the 2 tracks in the washes, and keeping the Rangers happy so we can continue to have organized events and ride motorcycles in the park.

Please SLOW DOWN NEAR or when PASSING OTHER VEHICLES, CAMPING AREAS, HIKERS, CAMPERS, HORSES, etc. When approaching other vehicles or people, PLEASE SLOW DOWN to keep the NOISE and DUST DOWN !!

Sorry, no refunds after February 1st, no refunds for no-shows.

ALERT:

I just got confirmation that there will be GAS at Tony Mottas in Ocotillo Wells. The shop is at the South West corner of Split Mountain Rd and Hwy 78..Or 5965 Hwy 78 Ocotillo Wells where the Desert Rose was. The shop is Called " Muy Rapido " He also has a mini market inside his shop. If you are mildly broke he can probably get you running again since he is a full service shop. This will be for the weekend of Feb 25 & 26

Heads Up,

IF the route travels up or down Grapevine Canyon, Be Aware there is a Bunch of 4 wheel traffic in the area. In Addition, there are many Blind Corners.

Blind corners + 4 Wheels + Major Squeeze or worse!!

Thanks Bagstr....we also say this on the Ride Info Sheet and on the Rollcharts......

"The ride passes thru many areas where there may be other vehicles, 4x4's, and some OHV Areas with other off-road traffic. Please be aware that there may be oncoming vehicles or cross traffic at any time on the ride."
