Beginner Ride Saturday

Recommended Posts

I'm in OB riding an x. What do you want to ride? Dirt or road?

I want to ride in the dirt. Need to practice, practice, practice! LOL

I might take Saturday off... for practice, might I suggest Lark Canyon instead? More varied terrain, although a bit farther out (Boulevard)

I'll tell you why... Pine Valley is rutted, rocky, and might have some slimy puddles. Falling on Bear Valley Road (Pine Valley) is painful... hard dirt, rocks, etc.

Lark has a lot of different terrain, and different levels of difficulty... some sand washes, hard pack trails, easy climbs, hard climbs, whoops, singletrack... lots more options, plus less imbedded rocks= less painful crashes

just my opinion- If I go, I will need to be done by 11ish

Agree there. Softer dirt, less risky trails. A great place for a beginner to learn. Just don't fall on the cactus. :coolio:

I was trying to defer to roadchick, and her Saturday request... sent her a PM

IF she is in for Sunday, that works better for me too... have a gig at Bigg's Harley saturday in Escondido/Vista around noon... If I don't work

let's see if we can scare up a Sunday noob ride... paul... mind posting one?

Mimi- yeah... there is cactus most places, but Lark is a great place for newbs to ride. First place (besides my yard) i took my kids, and fairly incident free.

Roadchick- IF you can make Sunday, we'll make it a funday... slow down and show how to ride whoops slow and whoops fast... then sand101... maybe how to stay upright while in ruts  ; I'll teach that class paul... etc.

Well I don't want to put the Hammer on a ride already posted for Saturday. If RoadChick can make Sunday, I'll post it up.

Ruts: BikeSlut is alluding to a solitary mishap from Sunday's frozen mud ride. We were clipping along on Bear Valley, and I became aligned with a muddy rut. It was no big deal- just a muddy rut, and instead of twisting the throttle like a sane person, my head was filled with IM IN A RUT, I'M GOING TO FALL, I MUST APPLY THE BRAKES!

And you can guess what happened- I hit the brakes, slowed down, and fell over. Just a tip-over, nothing spectacular, bike kept running, music not disconnected.

Does anyone have room for another bike? If not, not big deal, I will bring my NX250. Right now, I do not have duals-sport tires on my WR. I have the SM wheels/tires, and the Excel dirt wheels/tires. Need to buy a dual sport tire so I can ride to these rides vs. trailer.

Thanks!
