bikeslut 1 Posted June 5, 2007 dont laugh but i dont know what a poker run is (and i dont know how to play poker) but i'm down for whatever Normally, a poker ride means they set up 5 or more checkpoints... as you hit each one, you draw a card from a deck, and write it down... at the end, the best hands win prizes, or maybe just bragging rights. I've never done it on a motorcycle, but that's how it works in the mountain biking world.

Metal Twister 0 Posted June 6, 2007 Let me know if you all need any help in organizing whatever you decide to do. Dunno? Seems the creativity level is kinda flat with this group . Believe me, if anything good surfaces you will be the first in the loop. Thanks!
2Wheels 0 Posted July 14, 2007 A while ago, Rawhyde Adventures had some kind of dual sport competition. It was something like a trials competition where you get points deducted for putting a foot down but on BIG bikes. All the events had something to do with riding skills. They ranged in difficulty from easy to nearly impossible. Prizes to the winners. Here's the link to Rawhyde Adventures: http://www.adventureriderchallenge.com/home.html Maybe we could have something like the Rawhyde Adventures competition. Ideas for tasks: Any of the events from Rawhyde Adventures Bulldog a bike up a steep hill (team event) Tow another bike around an obstacle course (cones) Change an inner tube within a time limit (I might eat the points on this one) Navigate a boulder field blindfolded (just checking to see if you're awake) Navigate a short GPS course Any other task you might have to perform on a dual-sport ride. It wouldn't have to be elaborate. Just a few stations could make a fun event. If at least one event is difficult enough to guarantee a few bikes kissing the ground, that would make it all the more interesting.

We could have some huge truck tires or telephone poles laid out to ride over. I'll put the bike down for sure, I'm in!

unclecameron 0 Posted July 18, 2007 some sort of obstacle course / riding schoolish day I think would be good value to people wanting to get into the sport, and then have at the same time a tough smallish course for the more initiated, er, willing to buy fresh parts from appropriate Dealer I was thinking about some course roughly 2-5 acres max, with some technical, some supremely gnarly steep rocks/ledges, some flat, and some places to park and gawk, maybe hit up those culinary among us, and/or throw in a few bones from local dealer willing to donate to the cause...the whole thing would be easy to manage, entertaining, and downright fun. All you'd need is a list of events that emphasized ability, control of the bike, etc. to minimize Ambulance trips. The key is to make it reachable for all skill / aggression levels, and just have a nice sweet day, do maybe a timed obstacle course for the advanced riders with gotchas for extra points. You could have some of the more advanced riders showing technique to the newbies...really good PR I think...thoughts? I'll willing to brew up a new batch of postcardish things to promote it, if anyone thinks it's cool.
