  1. (I followed*tried* you up ECR in my truck Friday after our meeting and wanted to see you made your destination. I lost you after La Costa)[/i]

I decided to go to nchouse of Motorcycles anyways. Wind in fresh road rash hurts! They were very impressed with the carnage! I had never met Mescalero until friday. He came over to see if I needed help after I had laid the bike down on the street. In shorts. My knees took some serious damage. Not a good couple of days for the bum! Damn it!!!

  2. We met in Ramona at aprox 8:30. Met Cardiffchris and TodH. Never met either one but both turned out to be pretty cool. Headed out the black canyon trail to I believe mesa grande trail. Cardiffchris lead on his Suzuki 250. He goes pretty good on that thing. TodH seemed to be a very skilled rider as well. We then headed out to the back side of Palomar mountain. On the way we had seen a group of DS riders gather at Lost canyon rd. Turned of to see who they were. They were the Lost coyotes. Lead by Stevehof. We kept on our way to Palomar mt. We had a nice ride all the way up. We started back down and thats when the chit hit the fan! I blew a back tire once again. Tried to put air in but the tube was having none of that. Went to change the tire and NO SPOONS! Left them at home when I was working on my other tires. NO ONE had any spoons *uck!!! So with the rim lock holding the tire on I decided to trash the tire(baldini ) and ride it out. That made for an exciting ride all the way back to Werner springs gas station. Witnesses say that tire was smokin. Chris and Tod finished the ride back to the trucks while I waited at the gas station. I must have seen 100 motorcycles stop or go buy while waiting. About 5 felt the need to come and worn me about the flat I had! Tod came back with his truck. We loaded up and took me back. Thanks Tod!

As far as the tube issue was concerned, I am trying to figure out what happened. We figured out on the trail that the leak was at the rimlock. Now on someones advice(HAMMER) I had significantly lowered my air pressure. As we were not in the sand and I was having fun jumping every thing I could, I must of either landed on the spot with the rimlock or hit a object at that spot. Maybe it is just my weight(Never). I will cut the tire off the rim and analyze further.

I learned something again on this ride. Use the tools in your pack to fix your bike. Know you can and leave them there. I will now buy a second set of spoons, like I have for all the other tools for home.

One more thing. The term "No one gets left behind" is great. At this point I am about to change my handle to NO 1. Damn it!!!

  3. On the honda there is a plastic clamp/bracket which holds the cable to one side of the fork. For me the problem was the slack of the cable when compressing the forks, and turning. The slack was always catching a knobby and getting sucked between the forks. The zip ties just eliminated some of that slack. Since I have put the two on there I have not had a problem. Now that I think about it I guess I could take another clamp off of my parts bike. I will leave it until I have another problem.

  4. I just ordered the Thor Impact Rig. I wanted the Impact Rig SE for its extra parts and features but the L/XL size seems to be backordered nationwide and I really wanted it for the Dash. I'll be glad to post a review after I wear mine a few times.

If you haven't already, I would try one on! I just purchased a 4xl. Fits like a 2xl! Mine is the evs. It is the lighter variety as I have the other stuff for the serious days. Wanted something easy to get on and off, and lighter for the fire road rides!

  5. I myself have started to slime my tubes. I prefer to use a regular tube and slime it. After slimming a regular tube you have more protection than a HD tube, and have saved a fair amount of money! When putting slime in I put my bike on a stand. Remove valve stem core. Add 8 ounces slime. Replace core. Add 12 pounds air. Slowly spin tire by hand for a couple of minutes. Let it sit for a couple minutes then repeat. Let it sit for a couple minutes. Fire up the bike and spin at high speed. Let it sit. Spin again at high speed. Fill tire to desired air pressure. Doing this at the end will help to keep slime out of the valve stem!

  6. I made a desert set up today. Desert tires with new tubes. I would encourage everyone who has not changed their own tire to do it. At the very least you should go where people are doing it and learn. It is not fun nor easy(to do it right). You do not want to be learning on the road, or in the desert! Here is a little thing I learned today. The wheels that I had purchased had some cool rubber stopper doohickeys on the bottom of the valve stems. I thought they were to keep crap from going into the hole in the rim. Their main purpose is to allow the valve stem some slack so that when your tire spins on the rim, it does not necessarily sheer the valve stem off the tube. I have had two brand new HD tubes do that to me. We are not all as lucky as Ride Orange. I have installed rim locks to help prevent spinning in the future, but any added protection is nice to have. The same effect can be achieved by putting rubber washers between the nut and the rim on the valve stem. Hope this helps someone!

  7. Well after sifting through all the invaluable info provided I made the leap! I ended up going with the etrex vista cx. It had more bells and whistles than the venture. It also came with cables, software, card and such that you would have to pay extra for with the venture.
