  1. My left thumb and index fingers have been numb and tingling since the dash! This could be from a crash in which I landed on my shoulder. Both hands where numb at the dash after riding. I have now put some Rox Anti vibration risers to help this situation in the future.

  2. I would like to express my concerns about the never ending cycle of land closure. It seems that more and more land is becoming inaccessible due to environmental issues or funding issues. By closing more land you are perpetuating this downward cycle. When you close land you are forcing riders into a smaller area. Population is growing. Off road community is growing. Smaller area and more riders means more environmental impact, thus more closures. Downward cycle continues! We should try and find a balance to the environmental problem. I propose we keep these lands open. We work together in creating public awareness of the environment. Let more off road groups like SDAR volunteer to monitor, maintain, and rehab trails that are in distress. Open new trails on a seasonal basis. In doing this we can lessen the environmental impact we have on the land and stop the bottle necking affect we are now creating.

This same downward spiral holds true to the funding of organizations wich deal with land management. By closing land you are detouring people who would have spent their time and money in these areas. Rural communities who create revenue from these people suffer. Restaurants, hotels, stores, gas stations all suffer. Housing suffers when there are no jobs to support the homeowners. All this suffering creates less tax base to draw from. In turn less funding for land management. So once again we are trapped in a downward spiral. So lets change the policy of accentuating the negative, and lets start promoting the positive. Thank you!

    Side Note

Somebody give Ride Orange a cookie! By badgering the people that make up this club RO, you might just end up with your precious few 4 or 5 percent. Instead of growing by leaps and bounds like we have in the last year!

    Yours Truly

    DA BUM!

  3. There are no exceptions, except the one we all know: - if your "off-road only" bike was purchased in California before 1/1/04 and a California Street registration was initiated by 1/31/04, it will be grandfathered in under the old law. This is considered a courtesy registration as California law calls for any bike after 1978 model year to comply with emissions to get a plate.

Example - Nevada now conducts smog tests on street licensed bikes, incl dirt bikes, so if there is no Emissions sticker, you fail and lose your plate.

This is conflicting in it self. If you are going to grandfather a 2stroke cr500 with no smog from factory, how could you not grandfather all bikes prior to 04. I suspect that will be their cut off. To hard to go back and make all bikes comply. Rules were to unclear. I bet they set a standard, and make all bikes THAT ARE STREET LEGAL after 04 pass a smog test. That will severely hurt the aftermarket industry.

  4. I don't think the problem is with what hangs off the cap but the plastic gas tank caps themselves.

The small hose cap is added to remove the length of hose making it easier to remove the tank cap when refueling.

If you fill in the depression around the hose with JB weld, it should not break!

All this time I thought it was to stop gas from spilling out, or siphoning out when the hose was hot, or to stop the vent hose from sucking dirty air from ground level into the gas tank. I always suspected that pilots had to have some smarts!

  5. No one tire is the answer! That is the problem with dual sport people. We want it all. The best thing to do is have different sets of wheels for what you are going to be riding. Have a wheel set with 50/50 tires for the long street ride with fire road, mellow off road. Then have another wheel set with the aggressive set up for mainly off road. Seems like a lot to invest, but you are seeing already how much you will be spending on tires. All knobbies are going to wear quickly. So far the 606,s seem to be the favorite. I will be trying a teraflex soon.

  6. Talk about Deja Vu! Seems like just yesterday when I asked a group of girls "who wants to go to the prom?" One Ugly girl said yes! No Ron, I am not calling you ugly. I have never met you, so dont go changing your mind like the ugly girl did! What can I say. I get no respect!

  7. Bum, I felt your comment was a bit aggressive toward me, and felt a little hurt coming from a buddy I rode with in Desert Dash... But if that is the way you trully feel about the issue, then, I do welcome your honesty.

I was shooting for a bit, but not over the top! Felt I was replying in kind.

enjoy meeting other riders, going on rides, supporting the sport and riding areas... but keep my mouth shot on certain topics... Lets just ride and have fun!! :D

    Amen

When the topics are presented, it is hard not to comment! I struggle with that myself. Politics, religion, immigration should be somewhere else! Struggle continues!

I was looking for an edit and got it. I have retracted mine. Thank you. Card and Flowers on the way

  8. Hi Ron,

Sure is nice to get a growing number of people in the NC coastal region! I am also located in Encinitas. There are always rides going. Usually not from up here, but plenty you can join in on. Lots of good people on this site. Plenty of people to school you in the off road ways. XR650l was a good choice. Not that heavy when you get used to it!

  9. We need a contract with USFS on what we will actually do, like; pickup litter once every two months, reduce erosion by 15%, trim vegetation bi-annually ect.

What do we want to do?

How often do we want to do it?

Be realistic, it will take more than just a few of us. Lets not commit to some thing we can't do.

We cant really answer until we know what expected of us! You are the SEE bee, you would know what tools/equipment is going to be necessary to do what jobs. I dont have a bobcat with a grader or brush attachment. I do have a big 4x4 to carry crap to and away from the trail! Are these trails accessible with a vehicle? Who judges if we do or dont reduce erosion?

This is a big step for the club, ready to step up?

    Born Ready!!

I have already proposed to adopt Kernan Cycle Trail from Morena Stokes to 4 corners.

Nothing availabe in Coastal North County?

  10. It makes me think about what fun it would be to combine riding and shooting.

Target practice will riding on triggers back. Now that sounds exciting! Just like the old west. Im in! Lets keep this on the down low. You never know who's parole officer(public) might be watching!
