  2. and to the other mike ( 650bum ) That sux did the crash ruin those new atv bars or just bend them a little???

Just curious how they held up!!!! I'm looking into a set like those!!!!

The crash did not ruin the bars at all. The antivibe risers let the bars twist without bending. I just emailed the guy who sold me my bars. He just sold out of that bend, wich blows because I missed the auction for the last set(too busy). I will keep my eye out since now I know you are looking for the same.

Mike (Numbskull) if you need any help please call.

  3. First thing is I hope Mike aka Numbskull is ok. I did not get the whole story, but if he kick started that bike(he was having trouble starting before) after breaking his leg he deserves a manhood award.

I got there early. I did not want to pack thier lot, so I parked at the trail head.

This was some of us leaving the camp ground.

Numbskull climbing the rocks, then showing us how to properly lay the bike down.

Barry then newbie Amir getting a helping hand

This is where I had issues. I took off first thinking I would hurry down the drop and snap off pictures. In my haste I pulled the clutch and just went down the drop. I was going to fast. In my mind I was thinking I will just ride it out when I get to the bottom. It was ok until.

Just to the left of Snaildarter there is a big bolder. I hit that at speed wich in turn launched me into the air. High speed, heavy, with no contact with mother earth. Gravity took over and when I landed I ended up crashing into the rocks to his left at the bottom.

Completely tweeked bars to the left. Tore off the bags on the left. Destroyed front headlight assembly, smashing it into the instrument gauges causing them to snap in half. Nice!

I hurried up and got the bike out of the way. I tried to be quick about fixing so people did not have to wait. I did not get the bars tight enough and had issues with them the rest of the day. I must of done something electrical, as the bike had starting issues later in the ride.

    One of the rally points

We then headed to the blue inn. Joilet chose the deepest sand he could find. Thanks Ken!

Blue Inn out of gas. We called and headed back on the street. Filling Ken's bike on the way.

This guy must of run out of gas and left the bike.

Even though I bashed the bike up I learned alot. I did keep up the little dirt bikes pretty well for weighing in at about 750lbs. Loved my new tires. I did get lucky and bought a whole new front end assembly with guages for 60.0 delivered. Nice!

Was dissapointed that none of my compadres showed up to practice with me.

  4. Just a little something to build the excitement. Maybe this will persuade the undecided to accept the challenge before them.

The tent will go under the sleeping bag. I will carry my jacket, sweat shirt(maybe sweat pants) rolled up on the rear rack. Myself and the ogio vest. That should be all thats needed.

  5. I can stand now with no hunching over. Hill climbs, and down hills were great. Standing was making everything better.

Even with risers, I have the same problem with bar height. Did you have to go with new clutch and brake cables or was there enough length?

I did go with longer cables. I would check first with rerouting the stock lines first, depending how high you plan on going.

Dug the conditions were fantastic. I rode up to the Pinnacles trails. No real snow on the ground. Occasionally there was a patch. Water crossing are elevated, no real mud to speak of.

  6. That is Lake Silverwood. I dont know what happened to the driver. It appeared that it was a college girl. She had left her bag she had packed for the weekend, her back pack with school books, and her nice Laptop computer. Who ever was driving, either her or someone who stole it, must have driven through the water crossing punching the gas and spinning the rear end. At some point they hooked up and it shot them over the side. The truck rolled down 20 ft to the creek. After the badges and official start showing, they have no need for me.

  7. I found 909 bars with thier Quad Bend. Those are 1" block risers, with 2" Rox antivibe risers.

I then headed down to the lake.

This is a cool spot to hang out/ fish.

I always wanted to try this trail. I ended up doing about 1-2 miles. It is sponsered by a jeep club. Hill climbs as far as the eye can see. I would like to explore that entire trail system in the future.

As I was leaving the canyon I found this truck. I must of missed the accident by 15-20 minutes. Blood fresh, radio still on. I did a quick trail search to see if I could find someone. No luck. At the road I found a fire crew that had just finished dinner. Took them back. We search the creek area. I searched the canyon the way I was leaving.

Turned out to be a long day.

  8. I decided to go up to the mountains and R&D some of the fix's on the bike. Have to get it and me in shape for the Beach to River ride. Ended up getting there around 2:00. I got a late start, and they had traffic on the 215 down to 1 lane. That sucked.

Get there, gear up and hit the trail.

First little hill climb as you get to the ridge

    post-174-1204871167_thumb.jpgpost-174-1204871239_thumb.jpg

From a cool spot above the lake. It has a neat jump there. You can jump up onto the landing, and as you are in the air you are over looking the lake and feel like nothing is under you. First place I ever got the bike in the air.

Some of the changes. New tail light assembly. New high bars(quad bars). Skid plate extension

All the changes worked very well. The new higher bars were great. I can stand now with no hunching over. Hill climbs, and down hills were great. Standing was making everything better.

  9. How gnarly are the trails we're looking at?

Sand lots and lots of sand. Many dunes and washes. Rock gardens are always possible when in canyons/washes. Jacumba has some good technical fun and there's a rocky wagon trail that'll put us onto the 8. I think the hardest part will be the 350+ miles that'll be done over a 3 day weekend. Of course being that the entire route has never been run, just getting there could be the biggest challenge of all. :o Be sure to bring patience and flexibility if you think you want to go. I'm packing light and travelling with only what I think I'll need.

If you're on the fence because of terrain you may want to sit this one out until a full preride has been done. I don't think a 3 day ride into the unknown is the time to test yourself or your bike.

    :o:):o:):o

  10. I am in on this one. Wife is going to let me go. I am understanding that this ride will start March 28 to Sun the 30th. Who else is in on this. I believe it will be first SDAR "Adventure" ride with camping and such. It would be nice to have a collective idea of what we are bringing or should bring. This will give us time to get it all together.
