Dear friends, I can’t even believe I am putting this into words, but my dad, Bobby Camou, went for a solo ride on his dirt bike around 10am yesterday 4/25 and did not return home. We are fairly certain he went riding in the Otay Mountains near home. He had planned on being home around 4:30pm, and we last heard from him at 12:22pm when he sent us a snap shot of himself taking a break, so not hearing from him is making us very scared. This feels like a living nightmare. If you are able to (safely) help in our search for him, please DM or text me. We need hikers or any friends that have off road vehicles/quads/ATVs/dirt bikes...etc. Please pray for us, for my dad. And if you think it’s ok to go out alone on hikes or “adventures”, THINK AGAIN and STAY HOME, STAY PUT!

    Update on Recreation Closures

The San Bernardino National Forest is part of the USDA Forest Service’s Pacific Southwest Region. On March 25, 2020, Regional Forester Randy Moore issued a Closure Order for all developed recreation sites across all National Forests in the Region.

The USDA Forest Service’s highest priority is ensuring our employees and visitors remain safe as we support mission critical functions for the people and communities we serve.

This Order is effective through April 30, 2020.

This closure excludes trails, trailheads and staging areas that function as trailheads for dispersed recreation.

While these specific areas remain open for use, we recommend complying with local and state guidance and not traveling for your recreation needs.

If you do plan on visiting the San Bernardino National Forest please be aware that:

    • Trash removal is currently limited – please pack out all trash and waste
    • Avoid high-risk activities – law enforcement and search and rescue operations may be limited
    • If an area is crowded, please search for a less occupied location

Closing any site for any reason is not one we take lightly, but protecting our visitors and employees remains our highest priority. We are working with our state and local partners to determine the best path forward to safely reopening closed sites.

    Thank you for your cooperation.

  5. OFFICERS RECOVER STOLEN PROPERTY FROM PAROLEE’S RESIDENCE

Earlier this week, Riverside Police Officers assigned to our Field Operations Division responded to Klemm’s Cycle Supply, located in the 3600 block of Van Buren Boulevard, for a commercial burglary. Their initial investigation determined the suspect entered the building from the roof and stole eight off-road motorcycles, along with various merchandise, motorcycle parts, tools, and equipment. Officers were able to develop a lead in to the possible whereabouts of this stolen property which resulted in a parole search the following day. They also elicited assistance from the department’s Burglary Unit detectives.

On Wednesday, April 14, 2020, at approximately 11:30 a.m., patrol officers conducted the parole search in the 9300 block of Magnolia Avenue and safely detained three people. Inside the apartment, officers found two of the stolen motorcycles, along with two more in the backyard area. They also found much of the stolen merchandise, equipment, and motorcycle parts taken from Klemm’s Cycle Supply at the residence. Also located were two additional off-road vehicles that had been reported stolen from different victims, and other stolen property from a third business. This additional property recovered was reported stolen from different victims and businesses in the general area of Magnolia Avenue and Van Buren Boulevard.

Christopher Lewis, 32-years-old of Riverside, was arrested for being in possession of known stolen property and committing a felony while out on bail. A parole violation hold was also requested but denied. He was booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center, but released several hours later on citation based on the temporary emergency bail schedule due to COVID-19. The other two people detained at the apartment were identified and later released.

All the recovered stolen property and off-road motorcycles were returned to their rightful owners. Burglary Unit detectives will continue following up regarding this suspect possibly involved in other recent burglaries and thefts in this area. Anyone with additional information regarding this investigation and arrest should contact Detective Cory Camp at (951) 353-7955 or ccamp@riversideca.gov.

  7. I have established separate categories in the Equipment & Technical section to eliminate threads like this. The original equipment and technical thread has valuable information in it, but is to hard to find the information that is buried within it. There is lots of valuable info in this thread, but it needs to be where people can find it. I am going through and putting equipment and technical thread and moving each topic to its appropriate category. Please try to keep information organized. Thank you

  8. Sitting at home being quarantined and I am looking at the new Tusk Highland bags. I figured I would pull out my Moskomoto reckless 80v2 and start comparing them. I cant wait for the Luggage Rally. Being able to compare luggage next to each other is a great thing.

In looking at these bags overall, they are very similar in size.

The Tusk Highland Rackless with 33L medium top bag and both accessory bags weighed in at 15lbs (luggage scale)

The MoskoMoto Reckless 80 v2 with stinger 22L top bag weighed in at 12lbs (luggage scale)

Top flaps or top bag holder

Tusk went with one large coming from rear of bag with Molle attachments

    tusk3.thumb.jpg.a01735e75bd2ec9ce6deb8fe9f51696a.jpg

MoskoMoto has two smaller flaps. One coming from front and one from rear, both with small pouches or Map pockets

    tusk4.thumb.jpg.55fb24517108bf044e2b5c2b377ac851.jpg

The big difference lies in the side bags. MoskoMoto has an open carriage which carries the dry bag where as Tusk has gone with an enclosed roll top side bag with a dry bag that goes inside of it. The pockets or bags on the Tusk luggage are slightly larger than the carriage/ bag on the Moskomoto luggage.

    tusk6.thumb.jpg.ee62e27276fe61cf8f034a4eccaefc31.jpg

The next big difference in the side bags are the pouches. The pouch on the MoskoMoto are sewn on and attached were as the pouches on the Tusk bags are removable and attach with a Molle system. The Tusk accessory pouches are a little bigger.

    - MoskoMoto has come out with the Reckless 80L Revolver. It now has detachable "aux pox" instead of the sewn on attached pouches.

    tusk7.thumb.jpg.4166a708894e1ca8de35088227a22770.jpg

For the top bags that are available for this luggage there are two choices with the Tusk luggage. There is a 33L bag - medium, and a 22L bag - small. The small bag will come with a tent pole bag.

The MoskoMoto reckless 80v2 came with the 22L stinger bag.

I have the medium 33L bag next to the 22L stinger. The 33L bag is huge. The other obvious difference is the 33L is a top loader, where as the 22L is a side loader.

Last comparison would be the price.

Tusk Highland rackless luggage with Medium 33L or Small 22L (sm includes tent pole bag) top bag and both accessory bags are  $449 Msrp of $599

Moskomoto reckless 80L v3 Revolver (no longer make v2) bags with 22L top bag and both "aux pox" attachments are $745

  9. I did not know exactly what would be a good name to call this. Since we have time I felt it would be good to put this out there so that we could get as much gear to compare as possible. We would be getting together in Mid May after the shelter in place rules are lifted. A good excuse to get together and share our freedom.

I wanted to create a meet up / event where DS/ ADV riders could get together and compare the different manufacturers and models of luggage that are available for our bikes. This would be good for all riders who are either looking to buy their first set of bags or compare what they have to what other manufacturers offer in a hands on comparison so that they can make an educated decision in their future purchasing.  We will also have a BBQ and refreshments. It will take place in Escondido.

If you have a set up that you would like to show please chime in and I will add them to the list

This is what I have as of now.

    LUGGAGE

     Giant Loop Mojave bags

Giant Loop Coyote - Zipper version - would be nice to show the roll top if someone would bring it

Giant Loop Great Basin - Zipper version - would be nice to show the roll top if someone would bring it

Givi side and top adventure aluminum cases

    Kreiga OS Combo 36 packs

Tusk Highland Rackless Luggage System w/ Medium Dry Duffel/ Accessory Bags

LB/Mike, you have me thinking very seriously about snagging a used phone......

It really seems to be the wave of the future. The price of entry is what makes it reasonable to try.
