Data Managment

Recommended Posts

I enjoy having LOTS lof data, it allows me to be an instant "expert" (ie knowing what to expect) on an area. As such I have accumulated about 2gb of GPS data from myself and others (via ADVrider, here and GPXchange).

Now I have a delima. How to store all this data on my laptop so it is easy to retrieve. Do you guys have any tips for how you manage them?

Here is a small part of my file structure

GPS Data >> SoCal >> San Diego >> Corral Canyon

>> San Diego >> Ocotillo Wells

>> San Diego >> Plaster City

>> San Diego >> Explore

>> San Diego >> misc files

>> Big Bear

>> Death Valley

misc Files

You can figure out my method from that. This list does not include other states, trips, working files etc. Does anybody have a better solution or a tool that would show me all the tracks I have on google maps (like GPXchange does)?

Furthermore, that would be an AWESOME feature to have here.

What about "GPS Tracks & GPS Discussion Forum" in the members only section?

Maybe start a thread for each area titled similar to GPSExchange?

Yes, EveryTrail has that feature, to show all your tracks on 1 screen, indicated by a red pin. You click on the pin to get to that specific track.

As for personal storage, this is how I've done it:

GPS Tracks >> CA >> Norcal >> BassLake >> (tracks here)

GPS Tracks >> CA >> Norcal >> Bishop >> (tracks here)

GPS Tracks >> CA >> Norcal >> Mammoth >> (tracks here)

GPS Tracks >> CA >> SoCal >> McCain Valley >> (tracks here)

GPS Tracks >> CA >> SoCal >> Ocotillo Wells >> (tracks here)

GPS Tracks >> CA >> SoCal >> Pine Valley >> (tracks here)

GPS Tracks >> NV >> North >> Elko >> (tracks here)

GPS Tracks >> NV >> North >> Ruby Valley >> (tracks here)

GPS Tracks >> NV >> North >> Lake Tahoe >> (tracks here)

GPS Tracks >> NV >> South >> Primm >> (tracks here)

GPS Tracks >> NV >> South >> Mesquite >> (tracks here)

GPS Tracks >> AZ >> North >> Bar 10 >> (tracks here)

GPS Tracks >> AZ >> North >> FlagStaff >> (tracks here)

GPS Tracks >> AZ >> North >> St. George >> (tracks here)

So on and so forth...
