They say Baja isn't safe!

If I listened, I would have missed out on another awesome weekend in Baja. We had a great time, and met alot of new friends. I even preached to my Harley rideing brothers, about SDAR! I couldn't believe how receptive they were to me. Some of them are iterested in dual sport bikes. Especialy ones that can carry a surfboard!

Craig.

Yeah, it's real funny to mock all the people that have been robbed, stabbed, raped, kidnapped, or murdered in Mexico over the last year. That's Awesome.

Maybe it wouldn't be so funny if you knew someone that's happened too, which some of us do.

I was worried if this group of riders would shoot me, but the said, since I ride a Honda with a surfboard stapped to the side, and my wife on the back, It was COOL, I could hang with them any time.

I don't intend to mock anyone. But I just got a phone call, from Steve Mckellar, who went on my surf trip, last weekend(quote)Craig, I had the most fun, I have ever had on that surf trip, I just wish it was longer. I see another big South swell, forcasted for the end of the week. Do you want to go. If not, I am going to drive my truck, bring my XR600 and go for a couple of days by myself. I told him, I just got back from a KILLER weekend in Rosarito, with my wife.

We had an awesome time, this weekend. We met some realy nice people, and I surfed some good, uncrowded waves. :o

I am sorry but I do feel safe in Baja.

I think this is the swell he was telling me about.(Quote) Surfline, Baja forcast.

Going further out, an even stronger and fairly solid looking S swell (180-190) is on the way for mid next week. This swell looks strongest on Wednesday and even into early Thursday the 30th-31st, with a building trend through the day on Tuesday the 29th. From late Tuesday through early Thursday we’re expecting chest-shoulder-head high surf at the better breaks. Standout spots will be seeing some overhead sets then. Stay tuned, we’ll be tracking this swell through the SPAC over the next few days

Craig.

I had fun this weekend, at first I was scared because of all the stories I've heard but it wasn't as bad as long as you were careful of your surroundings. I was glad Craig took me. I had fun at the Rosarito beach, everyone was welcoming like always, we had a few drinks at the beach and it was very relaxing. The street vendors including the little kids were not as bothersome as before, I guess they are trying to stop that. We ate at a very nice restaurant called El Nido. They're specialty was Venison meat (Red Deer) and Quail eggs. They own a Quail farm, located 16 miles south east of Ensenada, where they get all their quail eggs from since 1984. The restaurant opened in 1971 but moved to the present location in 1974. Then on May 30,1994, they acquired venison (red deer) from New Zealand with 98 females and 4 males and up to this day, they raise their own venisons on the same farm the quail is from. Craig had a Venison machaca dish with cactus, I had a taste and it was good, I would highly recommend it, and I did not get sick from this weekend, so that's a good sign. My favorite thing about the restaurant is that they have a lady at the window that makes fresh homemade tortillas and they serve to you right off the stove with some butter. That's what keeps me coming back there and of course the relaxing feeling the waterfall gives you in the room where the food is served. It was a long bike ride but I got a good b-day breakfast, a nice room, a new cowboy hat, and possibly a new dress too. It has been a great weekend.

P.S. I'm sorry to all the family and loved ones of those who had a bad experience in Mexico, but life is too short and tragedies can happen anywhere even in our own communties.

Mrs. Hammerin-Hammon.

Craig, like I mentioned when I met you, my buddy was the guy that got jacked with all the toys on the way down. I feel safe in baja, the key is that you can't be out driving at night. For some, it didn't matter, as in the case of the couple from Encinitas that were assaulted in the Quatro Casas area, where they were set up for the night in their RV.

Most of the people down there are great, I've been going religiously since I was a little neenyo, but there's a power vacuum being filled down there, so don't test your luck too much.

I know you're not mocking anyone that was part of any of the tragedies that have happened down there, but some might be sensitive to a "They say Baja isn't safe" when they know individuals who've run into problems there. I know it's not your intention, but it might come off like "hey I went on a few weekend trips recently, so everyone is trippin".

Oh yeah, and happy b-day man. Glad you had a good one in Mekkie. I'm sure it won't be too long before I'm running down there with you.

My sentiments exactly. I will say though that I think you are a much less attractive target on a bike (especially with a surf stick strapped to it  ) than in truck pulling a trailer or in an Escalade wih all kinds of bling. Personally, I'm boycotting the whole TJ/Ensenada corridor until the Baja cops and government give the the warm and fuzzy again. They have their hands full so that isn't likely to be any time soon, but I have no worries of crossing in Tecate or Mexicali to get where I need to go. Anywhere from San Quintin south and it's all good (so far).
