pyro 1 Posted September 5, 2006 This turned out to be a really fun and exciting ride covering lots of different terrain. A solid half-day tour: Starting from OB around 4:30 am I headed south to the border and went east (obviously). I was into the dirt and up and over Otay Mtn. before dawn. (kind of wierd down there alone @ night. I don't really recommend it) From the east end of the Otay trail @ Marroon rd, I jumped on the 94 east. It was less than 10 miles of pavement to Tecate where I got back into the dirt picking up the border road east all the way to Campo. Another few miles of concrete brought me to that cool truck trail that we did on the v-j ride. From there I followed it all the way through, under I-8, and up into the mountains. That was probably the funest section of the ride: You start from the desert floor and wind your way all the way up to the big pines on top. It was a gorgeous morning up there as you can see! After relaxing for a bit in the forest and hoping to not get mistaken for a bird or mammal by someone with a gun, I looped around and basically did the same route going back, but tried a different path down the mountain. The whole ride was a total blast, and after stopping for a whopper+onlionrings, I was all the way back to the beach area around noon. There was a side shoot road that I noticed just out of Tecate on the way back . . It is on the south side of the road. Has anyone ever given that one a run? It looked like it might go pretty far up into those hills. Another border burner ? ? ? We'll see. Anyways, if anyone wants to try this 189 mile loop from Ocean Beach or some new variation of it, I'm totally up for it. Let me know. Ride On !
husky4me 0 Posted September 5, 2006 Cool! Seems like you had a lot of fun!! I'd like to try that route also before the sunrise... I'm trying to get my headlight fixed on my husky...
PastaPilot 17 Posted September 5, 2006 Count me in for the next one. I have to get the XRs carb issues straightened out before I can try anything like that. As it stands now I'd have to start with a full tank and refill twice to make it out and back getting home on reserve. it's a measly 2.8g tank but somehow the bike got screwed up and is getting 30mpg. So sad. next time pyro we'll make plans a few days in advance and meet up at Fiesta Island.

Kevin 0 Posted September 5, 2006 Pyro, did you come down Otay Mountain and exit Marroon Valley road, or did you take the dirt and come up by the Barrett Junction Store? Kevin
pyro 1 Posted September 6, 2006 I came out on Marroon. I can't seem to recall . . is that west of Barrett Jct.? I need to find the trail you are talking about, because as far as I'm concerned, the object is to ride as little asphalt as possible! :-) yeeeee-haw!
Kevin 0 Posted September 6, 2006 There is a dirt trial that will take you all the way to Barrett Junction. Maybe on one of the next rides I will show you were it is. There is a couple navigtional turns that need to be made while riding this trial!/Kev

Kevin 0 Posted September 7, 2006 Pyro, instead of turning around and going back the same way, try this. Take the Sunrise HYWY north to 78. Make a left for about 3 miles, then make a right at the Fire Dept Sign which is Engineer road. Follow this super windy road for about 10 minutes. You will then come to a Forest Building and a dirt road, turn left onto the dirt. Follow thsi dirt all the way. You will come out just short of Vejas on a paved road. At the "T" make a right which will take you again to dirt on Vegas Grade Road which will take you in the back side of the Casino. Then I-8 home. I will show you sometime(it might cost you a beer)! pyro 1 Posted September 27, 2006 DUDE, let's do this !
Kevin 0 Posted September 27, 2006 We can do it soon. This weekend, I am going 4x4 in the trucks, so the bike will take a rest. But the route I described is fun and scenic/Kev
pyro 1 Posted September 29, 2006 sweet! I'm thinking about posting it for next weekend, 10-7 or 10-8. We can start @ Otay in the morning: Do the whole route with your additions and xtras and make a day of it. We could double back at I-8 and ride the same route backwardz, or whatever is clever at that point. What do you think?
