Southbound: Temporary Detour to Ave. Internacional 

May 2016 Update

Detour is still open: The temporary detour to get to Avenida Internacional, the road to reach the Scenic Toll Road (Mexico Highway 1), is still open due to construction of a new bridge. The detour is simple to navigate and may bring back memories from before El Chaparral border crossing opened. Although it is simple, some detour signs point in directions that can be confusing. 

1. After exiting the Mexican Customs facility, stay LEFT and follow the orange detour 
signs and CENTRO signs. (The usual Playas/Toll Road exit bridge to the right is closed.)

2. Follow the CENTRO signs to the top of the bridge staying in the RIGHT hand lane.

3. The lanes will turn to the right and join the road that used to be part of the old border
crossing (Puerta México). Follow the VW Beetle!

4. Keep RIGHT and take the first exit to the RIGHT - PLAYAS DE TIJUANA/ROSARITO.
(This is the old Ave. Internacional exit for those who remember!)

5. The exit will take you down the bridge and join Ave. Internacional heading west.
