Ben 0 Posted April 8, 2014 I just put on my 17" wheels and have the current sticker front sprocket and 47 rear. Stock chain is stretched out to last knotch on the axle. Just wondering what has worked for you guys when commuting on the highway and still able to play on the dirt? Stock is 13/50 w/ dirt wheels and tires Current is 13/47 on 17" wheels Suggestions? 97xr400r 122 Posted April 8, 2014 I'm sure the internal ratios are different between our bikes (I have an xr400) but when I'm setup for street sumo I've got the biggest front sprocket that will fit 16t (have to remove the case guard) and the smallest rear sprocket availiable 38t. I really wanted to be able to go on street rides and not wind the piss out of the engine, this gear ratio might sound extreme but don't forget to factor in the smaller rollout on the 17" wheel and tire setup. If I remember right this gave me about 6k rpm at a tick over 70 mph in top gear and 12 mph at idle in first gear. I have two chains for my bike, one length works for my dirt wheels and gear ratios and another for my sumo setup, this makes the swap much easier for me.
