tntmo 910 Posted January 21, 2014 Nice weather in the desert, made for good riding even if it was a bit dusty. We kept it simple, since mom didn't come along we left the RV at home and brought the big tent instead. Plenty of room. Untitled by tntmo2, on Flickr I had helped get bboyle's DRZ back up and running so we brought it along for my neighbor to test. He has a DR350 and was enjoying the power and suspension upgrade. It made it through the sand easier than the DR, even though it's a heavier bike. Untitled by tntmo2, on Flickr My son posing for the camera. Untitled by tntmo2, on Flickr Husky in the sand. Untitled by tntmo2, on Flickr Shortly after this, as we were headed out of the mountain the DRZ just quit running and we couldn't get it to start. We tinkered with it for a few minutes and towed it to camp. Since I had just worked on the carb, it was the first suspect. We pulled it out and messed with it a few times, getting the bike to sputter a few times but never more than a few seconds and it was backfiring through the carb. We checked spark, it was very weak. I know coils and plugs rarely fail so we decided to pull the stator cover. Interesting find. Untitled by tntmo2, on Flickr Untitled by tntmo2, on Flickr Untitled by tntmo2, on Flickr I've never seen this happen. I guess one of the bolts holding the stator to the flywheel came loose, causing it to work the other ones loose and then breaking them off. I'm glad we weren't in the middle of the sand mountain when it happened. I'm sure bboyle is glad it didn't happen halfway through a trip to San Francisco. Here's the crew who helped trouble shoot and work on the bike. We lost some riding time but I'm glad we figured it out. Untitled by tntmo2, on Flickr Untitled by tntmo2, on Flickr Justin ended up taking the bike back to SD and bringing his DR350 out the next day. He had to take his girlfriend back anyway, so it worked out ok. Nice morning shots of the desert from camp. Untitled by tntmo2, on Flickr Untitled by tntmo2, on Flickr Justin was a bit tired from all the driving, so he was a bit off on his riding. tntmo 910 Posted January 21, 2014 The starter is perfect and the carb is cleaner than it's been in years. I can pull a DRZ carb in about five minutes now.
