Summary

The Piute Complex, which consists of the Heald and Clear Fires, was discovered by firefighters on the afternoon of Saturday August 4, 2012 in the Sequoia National Forest. The fires originated from lightning that passed through the area late Friday evening and early Saturday morning.

The Clear Fire is currently the higher priority of the two fires due to its growth potential and threat to the Valley View subdivision. This afternoon the Clear Fire made a significant runs to the East, which produced heavy smoke that has the potential to settle in valley locations. Tonight fire crews will actively work on fire line construction and establish fire containment lines.

The Heald Fire, which is in the northeast part of the Piute Mountains, had little fire activity today. Fire crews will be back on the Heald Fire tomorrow morning and continue to construct and establish fire containment lines

South Central Sierra Interagency Incident Management Team assumed command of the Piute Complex this evening at 6 PM. An Incident Base Camp has been established at Camp 9.
