  1. You can "electronically" sign a petition with a few keystrokes....it couldn't be more easy..... Need more fuel for your fire? The 2007 Boxer California Wild Heritage Bill S-493 proposes 36 new Wilderness additions totaling over 1.1 million acres - It includes three inappropriate Wilderness additions in the Sequoia, which would close 46 existing trails to multiple use. - Motorized groups have adopted at least 7 trails within the area proposed to be closed to them - None of these volunteer groups were contacted to ask if they thought these Wilderness proposals were appropriate - None of these areas were recommended for Wilderness by the Sequoia National Forest Have you signed it yet?! do it.....do it now! Petition opposing any more Wilderness Areas in California

Unfortunately I haven’t met many folks in this group and I’ve been a member for years (my fault for lurking more than riding)……sorry I didn’t get to meet you in person but good luck with your move to Alaska……my brother went up to Anchorage for a 2 week duck hunting trip…..that lasted 30 years!!!……he loved the area and I really embraced it too when I visited him (he got knocked down and out by cancer two years ago)…..he lived in Chugiak which is about 30 miles east of Anchorage towards McKinley…..let me know if you need any contacts/shoulders to lean on if you’re headed to that area of the state……I have a few friends in the area…..would love to go up there and ride sometime…. a few pics from my last trip to your newly adopted hometown.....2 at the Iditarod museum and one heading into town.....my brother's place was ~30 minutes west of Wasilla (near Eagle River).....enjoy

    GPS converters

I agree - "Hardwire" to your battery is the way to go......I agree (again) - go to the CycoActive website and search for your specific model of GPS....the hardwire kit for my Garmin 60CSx was less than $30.....I bought 2 - one for my dual sport bike and one for my road bike..... http://www.cycoactive.com/
  6. Hey - I had a blast on the ride this Saturday - Thanks for organizing the event Randy! Unfortunately we got knocked out of Sunday's ride since the engine on my yz400 seized (kickstarter is frozen in place.....glad my buddy Sean was able to make it back to camp).....need to repair that pronto to get ready for the Death Valley 350 in a month.....I hope to head out on Sunday the 11th from Ramona and ride Oriflame/Grape Vine/Jasper with my son.....need to put in a ~100 mile day ride locally to make sure his knee is ready for the Death Valley ride (he had knee surgery in December which is why he wasn't on the ride this weekend) Snapshot highlights from memory: - Nice campground.....never "hooked up to power" with my toybox before (I generally park remotely in BFE) - Could the conditions/weather have been any better?.....what a great combo - heavy rain followed by sunshine made for less plummy sand washes/better visibility than usual..... - I'd never ridden Rodriguez or Grape Vine in that direction.....I think I prefer the direction we went this year (I'd rather climb the rocks than go down through'em).....that was one of Sat's highlights for me.....really enjoyed the Rodriguez/Grapevine/Jasper sections.... - Somewhere along 5B? (I think) there were three channel washes side by side.......and there were three of us riding together (Sean Tompkins, John Turk and me)......so it was nice to be able to pin it side by side in our own private washes and not eat one anothers dust..... - The final couple of sections after lunch along the railroad tracks and Sin Nombre wash were really nice/scenic....though we F&*^ up reading the roll chart in the last part of Arroyo wash (see below) - Good grub......the pork/chilli was tasty - nice to mingle with some of the boys and put a face to the names/handles on this site - A new 606 rear tire in the raffle....sweet - perfect timing as I'll need a new rear tire beore the Death Valley 350 Snapshot lowlights memory: - San Felipe wash was a bit long and boring after the great start ......30 miles of.....nothing....leading over to Blu Inn.....I'd prefer more hardpack/trail riding..... - ran into a bit of difficulty with the roll chart at a few points.....(1) wasn't sure where to proceed from the Kiosk at the end of 5A or B (can't remember which one).....(2) got all screwed up before lunch and lost track of where I was on the roll chart (zoomed out on GPS to get bearings and headed down any wash leading towards the 8fwy with Joliet)....then cut over on the surface road to the lunch stop in Ocotillo......(3) blew by the "BL" at mile 6.9 on the last leg of the roll chart in Arroyo wash.....at about mile 11.2 realized there was no way this wash was leading to S2.....zoomed out on GPS and saw we'd missed the "BL" at 6.9.......I'm thinking that "BL" was a "L"?........then again, with 150+ miles under our belt at that point we may not have been thinking too clearly......but lot's of other guys missed that turn too.......there were lot's of confused folks deep in Arroyo wash.....but hey, the wash beyond 6.9 was actually pretty cool......lot's of folks camped out back there......but I was a bit burnt out at that point and just wanted to get back on S2/grab a cold beer at camp.... - Sean flying into camp with engine racing on YZ (unresponsive to throttle input at that point....stuck throttle slide?.....then kickstarter froze as we tried to revive the bike after it cooled down.....but VERY thankful he was able to make it back rather than breaking down waaay back in one of the washes) - Missed out on Day 2.....but will return with the roll chart All in all the positives outweigh the negatives by FAR......bummer the YZ crapped out but sh*t happens..... Thanks again Randy.....will upload the few photo's I snapped on Sat. sometime this week....

Stefano - Also try looking at the Cycler Trader online: http://www.cycletrader.com/adsearch.html Enter "Street Legal" or "Ca. Plate" or (?) in the "keyword box" in your search criteria and it'll bring up misc. street legal Honda's, KTM's, Suzuki's, Yamaha's, etc Here are a couple of older/cheaper Honda XR600's I came across using the approach noted above (assuming that's your bike of choice?): http://adcache.cycletrader.com/5/2/1/87795421.htm http://adcache.cycletrader.com/5/2/1/86629421.htm
  8. Yeah, that looks like a good movie......look forward to seeing it when it's released...... Bought the "Long Way Round" DVD off Amazon......great six part episode report on a moto trip around the world that I assume most of you are familiar with....if not, here's a link: http://www.longwayround.com/html/longwayround.html Here's another link to more obscure dual sport flick (I haven't seen it yet): http://www.dirttrackproductions.com/traile...solo/index.html

    D.O.T approval? Any info?

I have non DOT turn signals on all my street legal bikes (2 dualsports and one road bike).....never had any issue even though my rear turn signals look like Christmas twinkle lights......as stated by others, I think the most important thing is to keep the plate stickers current......so once you break off the big honking turn signals on that new EXC525 (or melt the one on the right side with your exhaust) you can replace them with something a tad bit smaller Whoops.....just re-read the lead off post and see that you have a 450 with Baja kit rather than the "Big honking stock lights" that come on the new 07 525.....my mistake.....and BTW, congrats on the new ride.....

    Tires

Started similar thread on D37 Website......for years I've heard folks pushing 739's and 606's......my local shop recommended Kenda Carlsbad's and I like'em......not DOT but they wear well and if the bulk of your riding is off-road I think you'd like'em.....drawback is the casing isn't as thick as a 739 or 606..... Someone on the D37 site was pushing Maxxis tires......any others out there that people really like for ave weight Dualsport bikes? (I ride a 2002 KTM EXC 400 - ~250lbs?) Joilet and Hammer - I live in Ramona but work right near you guys in Carlsbad.....look forward to getting out on a ride/stopping by the shop sometime.....and, like RAD, I also have Kacey's Baja GPS book but haven't really put it to much use....look forward to makinga few trips south with Da Boyz... See some of you guys this weekend at the Desert Dash - I'll be in space 69/91 at Butterfield Ranch (last spots on north end between 3rd & 4th streets in campground).....should be out there around ~9pm on Friday..... Later, Chris

  14. Hi guys - Anyone else riding in the LA-B-V ride Thanksgiving weekend? My friend had to bail so I'll be riding solo and therefore just lost the return trailer option for my bike (his wife was going to drive over in their truck).....If you're riding in it, and you haven't set up your lodging plans for the way over, I have a room/open bed reserved in Azusa on Thursday night and a room/open bed reserved in Barstow for Friday night.....Sat I'll be staying with a friend in Vegas.....I'm looking for a trailer lift "for my bike only" to get back from Vegas to San Diego on Sunday/Monday......I'm already booked to fly out of Vegas Sunday afternoon....I'll take care of your lodging on the way over.....you get my bike back to your house in San Diego and I'll pick it up later in the week.....any takers?

    LA-B-V

I was able to land a trailer lift back through the D37 website - thanks to those you responded.
  16. Rec'd an e-mail from the San Diego Adventure riders (Randy L.) on Sat morning that some folks would be gathering for a ride from Ramona Sunday, September 25th. The plan was to ride from Ramona to Julian and down to the Banner store where we'd hit the dirt on the Oriflamme Canyon / Rodriguez Truck Trail. That trail took us up over a mountain, through a canyon and then down to the Anza Borrego area. Once in the valley the trail/road got pretty soft/sandy....that gave some of the bigger bikes problems and after waiting for an hour or so to check on the two remaining riders Peter and I had to leave to get home. If they went according to route, from there the boys headed north on S2 and made a loop through Blair Valley. Back on S2 up to 78, then head east towards the Borrego Springs turnoff (Yaqui Pass). Then up Grapevine Canyon which ends near Ranchita. From there they would've take Montezuma Valley and San Felipe roads back to 79, left on 76, up Mesa G! rande to Black Canyon and finish back in Ramona. I'm not sure how to link over to my photo's but I'll try: http://www.kodakgallery.com/BrowsePhotos.j...mp;sort_order=0
