I think I'll be out that way a bit later than you, but im planning a similar route tomorrow AM as well. Probably start from the Exxon in Anza around 9:30 am and figure it out from there. -
ruggle started following Full Moon Ride, Inland Empire DS Ride, Sunday 2/6, sunday the 19th and and 6 others

I'm thinking about anza borrego 9:00am ish - 2:00pm ish. Moderate to lazy pace. No solid route just yet, usually park at Tamarisk campground and head north or south. Could switch it up some if there's interest.

Shop recommendation for Yamaha carb tuning?
ruggle replied to ruggle's topic in Motorcycle Shops - Discussion
Just thought I'd follow up with a general recommendation for C&D Cycle Center. They had the WR up and running right the first time, no hassle. VERY reasonable cost too. The problem ended up being a combination of a dirty carb, missing washer, small-ish main jet, and partially completed air box snorkle removal mod from the previous owner. Very glad I passed this job off to a shop that knew what they were doing. Saved me at least one more Saturday afternoon. -
Shop recommendation for Yamaha carb tuning?
ruggle replied to ruggle's topic in Motorcycle Shops - Discussion
Thanks Ken. I think I'll give them a shot. -
I recently bought a used 07 yamaha wr450f that has never quite run right. It starts easily, but used to idle poorly. It would run like a champ beyond idle, but when it was cold I would have to keep blipping the throttle to keep it running. SO, I yanked the carb, replaced the pilot jet with a new one of the same size and installed a remote adjustable air mix screw. Set that thing right, and now the bike starts and idles perfect. Problem is that now anytime I hit the throttle hard (3/4 or more) the bike totally loses power completely for a moment, then kicks back in full force. Not so awesome of a surprise. Anyways..... I'm too busy to keep pulling the carb and trouble shooting this thing right now. Anybody have a good recommendation on a shop to take it to in the North County that will get this thing running perfect the first time? Thanks

Thanks for the sweet pics, and thanks for showing me around the area some. Catch you next time. -
In! I'll be there and ready to roll at the 9am shift. The drive from O'side is a bit of a haul.

This is just what I was thinking of as well. Very interested, can't commit yet, but close...

First XR400 ride, and a KnightHawk sighting

Great to hear you're enjoying the bike as much as I did. It's always cool when a bike goes to a good home. -
Hey Gang, thanks for showing me around. That was too much fun. Here's the only pic I took that turned out any good. Catch ya'll next time. Russell

Sunday 2/17, Corral or Lark/McCain

Looking to ride either Corral or Lark Sunday morning. I can be at either by 9am. I guess I'm maybe a high-ish beginner/low-ish intermediate rider. I'm not familiar with either place, just looking to explore around for a few hours. Russell -
Man this sounds awesome. Too bad I'll be out of town.

Who'd have guessed.....there's lots of sand in the desert
ruggle replied to ruggle's topic in 1 to 3 Day Ride Write-Ups, Stories and Photos
I really used to hate sand when I was on my KLR650 or F650GS, but honestly now I actually enjoy it. The XR is so much lighter and has such good low end torque, I feel like I can continue to be the sloppy rider I am and get through the soft stuff without having to pick up my 400lb+ bike over and over. That said, when it gets as deep as the picture, it's still a physical struggle. I know all kinds of folks who can ride those bikes (and heavier) through the freekin Sahara, and I'm sure they have a blast doing it, but for my skill level low weight and decent hit are the answers for my good time!
