  1. I am a noob mechanic and in need of suggestions. I have a 2015 dr650, stock, and I am going to do the idaho bdr on July 11th. I have changed oil, adjusted valves, but I am not confident with the carburetor adjustments. Is there a local shop you would recommend for a tune-up just for my peace of mind before I take off? I am in Del Cerro.

    Thank you

    Kevin

      Kevin,

I can't remember the last time I brought anything to a shop.  If you want to bring the bike over here we can take a look at it together.

Or you can contact Ken (his name on SDAR is trophyhunter), he has owned several DR650's and knows them pretty well.

Are you installing a jet kit, or just want to tweak the stock carburetor a bit?

Ill reach out to ken. The carb is stock but I just want another set of eyes on it before I set off on a 1200 mile ride. I don't have confidence in my noob skills and a second opinion would be great. I want to get it dialed in to ensure some confidence.

  2. Happy Friday, I am going to trailer my bike up to nate harrison grade and do some exploring. The only challenge is where to park and leave the truck and trailer? I would appreciate any suggestions. Thank you
  3. Thanks for the info about staging. Being a noob I am trying to collect as much info as I can about great riding areas. By the way, congrats on the retirement and the next adventure in your life. Happy Friday, Kevin
  4. Great ride, great friends, and Mexican food! I have never ridden up there, where do you stage?

Question about otay mtn truck trail

Is that the one near Tecate or the campo border patrol station off the 8? I looked at both of them on google maps and they look great. Thank you for the suggestion

Question about otay mtn truck trail

Thank you for the information. I am new to this and I am looking for some mellow dirt roads, fire roads, forest roads etc.... I am not up to single track yet but I am very excited to improve my skills and ride as much as possible. I love the adventure exploration idea of motorcycle riding, especially dual sport. Any suggestions on places to take care of my addiction? I like the idea of heading up in elevation for some cooler temps but I am up for exploring anything. Appreciate it,

    New rider from Del Cerro

Thank you I and I really appreciate the advice. I have been able to ride it 4 times so far and it is great. I appreciate the community here and on other forums. I would really like to ride a noob ride from SDAR when things clear up.

    What's Open?

I rode otay mtn yesterday and it was open and a great mental health break.
  11. I am new and didn't know where to ask this. I have had my Dr650 for about a month now and have been riding otay mtn truck trail 4 times. I am loving it and can't stop smiling after every ride. I have been down Marron Valley rd heading south past Otay Trk trail but all 4 times it has had a locked gate. Is that always there? I have looked at google maps and just past the gate, there seems to be an amazing road heading east that comes out east of Barrett junction on the 94. These roads are perfect for my skill level and I am trying to explore as many as I can. Any suggestions for similar roads/trails would be appreciated also. Appreciate the help
  12. I just picked up a 2015 dr650 with 817 miles on it. I borrowed a bike last week and I felt like a kid and couldn't stop smiling. I am looking forward to riding and participating in a great community. I hope everyone is safe and healthy. Cheers, Kevin
  13. In need of some advice.... I am looking to getting back into dual-sport riding. The last bike I had was 20 years ago and that was an XT350. I plan on riding fire roads, dirt roads, trails and advancing from there. I am thinking 85/15 for my riding goals. I am 5'9" with a 30" inseam and 178lbs. My concern is seat height and weight of the bike. I have gone down the forum and internet rabbit hole and I think I am more confused about which one to choose. Any suggestions, observations or experiences would be very helpful. Thank you
