  1. A couple buddies and I did the Beta demo day in Anza on Saturday and had a blast. I have to say I think I am in love with the 390 RR-S. Much a do all desert and single track with a luggable long stroke motor.  Also checked out their EVO 300 trials bike. That little thing is awesome and would be a skills builder for sure.  Here is a short vid of the 390 if interested, I forgot to turn on the camera otherwise.

12, anybody going to Ocotillo weekend after this? We will have a small group out there.

Wells or?  I may shoot down...

Retirement for me was most gratifying and terrifying all the same. As time went on, it’s all good!

If I were you I'd grab VanJoosten's bike like RIGHT NOW.

But to give a more comprehensive answer, KTM suggests 250 hours before piston replacement, about $1200 at a shop. My bike has almost 350 hours and over 10 miles and is still ripping. I believe the 2014 KTM 500 is the finest motorcycle ever conceived by nonspecifichigherpower.

I might try to snatch that one also in a few months if still around...All set up and clean.

My advice...don't waste your time with the 350. Just go with the 500. You've been doing enough riding now that you're ready to step up. The 500 is such a fun bike to ride in the desert...I guarantee you'll love it, or your money back.

Ya, I think I am there...It’s just a brand thing now.

  5. Great feedback, I am a larger gent and that’s what I don't like about the 250, have to rev it to get going. Even though it will supposedly handle it, I worry about longevity and it’s just tiring. I definitely do more open desert and two track than singletrack. I guess I keep trying to talk myself out of a 500 class bike since I have only been back on a bike for a couple years now and I am afraid it would be too much, but I suppose it’s all in the right wrist and use of clutch.

Ken, I sent you a private message on FB a while back...

  6. Interested in hearing your views on the 350 KTM/Husky. Do you wish you went bigger (500)? How is it in deep sand/ road manners? Just continuing my research before pulling any triggers. A T700 is likely in my future, but like TNTMoto, I will wait for a used one.

I  carry a small Co2 inflator kit (Tusk brand) and a small tire pump.

Same, MTN bike hand pump and CO2 kit.
