  1. Hey there! I'm planning a 8 day offroad trip in 2 weeks (Mar 6 - 13) and looking for some advice. It's been about 4 years since I've ridden south of the border and my tracks are pretty old now. I wanted to confirm a few things, and I know this community is most knowledgeable about northern Baja. The setup: Me: DRZ400 My buddy: LKR250 This will be my 4th ride in Baja, but last time was in 2016. Anything to be aware of since then? Possible Itinerary: Day 1: Tecate to San Felipe (I've got some old tracks that run dirt right from Tecate.. Hopefully still passable, advice welcome) Question: Is there still gas at Sawmill? Day 2: San Felipe to Gonzaga Bay (Alfonsinas) Day 3: Gonzaga to Bahia de Los Angeles (Never been there) Question: I found an OLD track from Gonzaga to Bahia de Los Angeles (pic below) is this track still ridable? Day 4: Bahia Los Angeles to Cantavina. Any suggestions for this route? Day 5: Catavina to El Rosario Day 6: El Rosario to El Coyote Meling Ranch (I've been to Mikes before and stopped by here for a snack.. seems like a really nice place) Day 7: El Coyote Meling Ranch to Tecate + spare 1 day for breakdowns or chill/slow down Thoughts on this plan? Any recent gps tracks that you guys would care to share? I have also considered towing the bikes a little further into Baja and exploring more of the middle of the peninsula. I have never ridden much past gonzaga on the Cortez side. I fly to Loreto often and have wondered if there are dirt trails all the way there.
  2. Will, these look awesome! So glad you posted. As you know, I just moved to Sweden and sooo missing Baja. I had a feeling Coyote Meiling was going to be awesome. Did you try their "oasis" pool?
  3. Hey there, I would like to do a 2-5 day ride from Tecate on light bikes. My son on his CRF230 and me on the DRZ400. I'm thinking Day1: Tecate->Mikes (back trails thru sawmill) Day2: Mikes->Gonzaga (hit dry lake) Day 3: 100 mile west coast loop (Don't know the name but I've done this track over new years) Day 4: Secret Dunes near Punta Colonet Day 5: High tail it back via Compadre to Tecate Looking for 1-2 experienced guys to join. I'm flexible concerning times... we can do just 1 night or all 4. Prefer someone that is family friendly. Maybe another father son combo.
  4. Have fun boys. Definitely catch you next time.
  5. I'm jonsing to get down there for a short small bike trip too! However this weekend is bad (easter). I'm open weekend of May 6 or 13.
  6. Did you end up going? I may be interested in going this sat.
  7. When do you want to leave and how far you want to go?
  8. Hi All, Thanks again for your help. Here is a post on my own blog with a very detailed and gratuitous ride report with pics and video. http://kiphaynes.com/wpress/?p=111 And just the video:
  9. Thanks again all. Eddie, I took your suggestion #2 and followed compadre most of the way back and skipped sawmill. Was a fun and easy ride back. The biggest problem was the sandy whoops headed south towards sawmill just before sawmill on the route we chose down. I'll post a ride report soon.
  10. Thanks a ton you guys are amazing. Going to find a cafe here and go through the data now. Part of the drama was that I had a tire actually come off the rim toda on the way to gonzaga bay. Nobody was hurt but was a close call. Now everyone is a bit gun shy about the return trip. Here is a picture of me in the back of a truck getting hauled back to San Felipe with my son faithfully following. Awesome stuff for a memorable adventure
  11. Hi dualsport SD community. This is my first post and I'm in a bit of a pinch. I'm in San filepe and needing to return to tecate tomorrow or day after. I took a GPS route posted on a other forum that went from tecate through sawmill to RT 3 North of San Felipe. I really need another potentially easier route to compare to as it was a struggle for my friend and son. Just want to know if there is an established route that goes through sawmill. If someone here could be so kind as to private message me or email me at kiphaynes@gmail I would be greatly appreciative.
