Kiprock 0 Posted October 26, 2016 Hi dualsport SD community. This is my first post and I'm in a bit of a pinch. I'm in San filepe and needing to return to tecate tomorrow or day after. I took a GPS route posted on a other forum that went from tecate through sawmill to RT 3 North of San Felipe. I really need another potentially easier route to compare to as it was a struggle for my friend and son. Just want to know if there is an established route that goes through sawmill. If someone here could be so kind as to private message me or email me at kiphaynes@gmail I would be greatly appreciative.

tvscum 43 Posted October 26, 2016 This GPX track is from dualsportmaps.com I have not ridden this route and not sure how difficult it is. Maybe the same track you already have. Saw mill to San Felipe-modified.gpx
tvscum 43 Posted October 26, 2016 EDIT... TWO alternate routes back to RT 3 from the same site. WARNING AGAIN... I have not ridden these routes. Maybe some of the experts on this site will chime in. Note: one of these routes was labels "easy way." https://dualsportmaps.com Clipboard 2015-01-21 Baja-modified.gpx CORE - Mikes 2 San Felipe EASY WAY-modified.gpx
EddieEarl 6 Posted October 26, 2016 Just received this via email from one of the experienced Baja guys ... *** Kip- I am not at my computer, but have two options. Either way, start by taking the highway from San Felipe towards ensenada. 1) just past Trinidad (there's a Pemex and you should fill up), maybe 10 miles you will see a right turn towards Jamau. It's an easy ride and it will hit the sawmill. 2) ride all the way to ojos negros. You'll see some signs for a nature camp that begins with a "k." That's the start of the compadre highway. It's the easiest ride. Either route, you'll want to set a way point for the sawmill. On the compadre, the turn off will be a right turn and it's a couple of miles up. Hope this helps. Thanks, Jim ***

Kiprock 0 Posted October 26, 2016 Thanks a ton you guys are amazing. Going to find a cafe here and go through the data now. Part of the drama was that I had a tire actually come off the rim toda on the way to gonzaga bay. Nobody was hurt but was a close call. Now everyone is a bit gun shy about the return trip. Here is a picture of me in the back of a truck getting hauled back to San Felipe with my son faithfully following. Awesome stuff for a memorable adventure
Kiprock 0 Posted October 29, 2016 Thanks again all. Eddie, I took your suggestion #2 and followed compadre most of the way back and skipped sawmill. Was a fun and easy ride back. The biggest problem was the sandy whoops headed south towards sawmill just before sawmill on the route we chose down. I'll post a ride report soon.
