Sandblast Hare & Hound, who's going?

Eh you'll be good. Courses at Superstition are easier than PCE and PCW. Mix of everything. Sand, rocks, tight, wide open. 66 miles is relatively short compared to some of the other formats, so it's a good intro race. The nice thing about running two loops instead of the same loop multiple times is the expert classes won't blow by you at 300 mph doing a wheelie. Fun to see, but catching their roost with your helmet gets old. 😃 Dead engine start. If you're not trying to be competitive, you can always slow roll off the start and let the pack thin out. Enjoy the dust! On my YZ450 I run a 14t up front for everything except Glamis. That would be my suggestion for D38, otherwise you'll find the top of 5th gear really quick in the open sections. Races are fun. Go race.
  3. Does anyone know if the Valley of the Moon is accessible by OHV? It looks like there are trails there, and I see some web pages indicating that Jeep trails exist in the area...but I've also seen it's potentially a BLM Wilderness Area with no vehicle access. Looking to ride from the Jacumba Shell Station to the Gravity Wall/VotM. Any input appreciated. Thank you!
  4. To clarify, I have a plated KTM 500. Perhaps "OHV" was the wrong terminology.
  5. So are the OHV routes clearly marked? Stay on trail and we're all good?
  6. Surely someone in this group has some property and a Bobcat. Make it a minibike race and I'll join on my wife's TTR-125. 😃
  7. I've ridden in the park a little over the years but never really got familiar with it. Most of my riding these days is at the track or just about everywhere else in SoCal aside from AB. Can someone provide a couple pins to decent staging areas to start from? Any major landmarks or boundary roads nearby would help me get the lay of the land. I'm not afraid of hard areas. 500 EXC. Thanks!

    Las Vegas ideas ?

Hit up Speed Vegas and go jump a Trophy Truck or lap a supercar. A little spendy, and I've not done it, but it's worth a look.
  9. I'm looking to explore this area a bit. All of my experience in Mammoth is during the winter, so I've never ridden up there. Looking for any information...routes, trail names, staging areas, .gpx files, lodging info, points of interest...etc. KTM 500, not afraid of the hard tracks. Thanks all!
  10. Did this ride with a couple friends over the weekend. 7 hours ride time, 225 miles. Started at the Lazy Lizard and ended up in Big Bear Lake by 5:00 PM. I'm interested in putting together some long rides like this and looking for routes. Anyone got any suggestions? Thanks all!
  11. @Goofy Footer I'm keen (and have one or two more guys as well) if you want to put something together. PM me! 😃
  12. Pretty well nailed it. 😃
  13. Waypoints: 1. Lazy Lizard to Iron Door (with a detour into Superstition). This is all dirt except the last couple of miles to Iron Door. 2. Iron Door across Oc Wells to Salton Sea (all dirt). 3. Salton Sea across Mecca to Berdoo Canyon (mostly pavement). 4. Through JTNP and Yucca Valley to Rimrock (mix of dirt and pavement with lots of options if you know the area well). 5. Rimrock to Big Bear (all dirt). We stayed the night in Big Bear and trucked home to SD the next day. We had a drop-off/chase truck so there was no vehicle shuttling. All on KTM EXCs. 450 and 500.
  14. Wasn't sure where to post this...(mods) feel free to move if needed. Yesterday I was out at Corral Canyon. Pine Valley exit over the Kernan Cycle trail to Corral. Once I'm into CC my experience/navigation/directional sense is still very green. I'm working on improving that. Is there a decent trail map? A little online digging has turned up some nice 4x4 maps, but they exclude the single track. Once we got to 4 corners I was able to find my way (downhill from the parking lot) over to Peacemaker (short loop) and then onto Ranger. Took ranger the full way up hill until it merged with a "green" trail...can't remember the name. I did have a pretty solid head-on with a YZ 250 (coming opposite on the "green" trail) if that person happens to be on these forums. No harm done. 😃 Anyway, wondering if I covered the entirety of Ranger...if going up or down is the "hard way" and what those handful of intersecting trails were along the way. Anything that will help me get a better grip on the CC layout would be great. Maybe in the coming weeks my buddy and I can sync up with a CC ride and get the lay of the land a little better. Thanks!
  15. Gotcha. We definitely started off the main (perimeter?) road and entered on the west side. Road all the way up until it merged with Greenhorn. The couple of intersecting trails must have been the aforementioned bail outs. There were some tough sections. I'd be lying if I said I got all the way up without a couple of snags. 😃 I'll let y'all know the next time I'm headed up. Would be nice to put someone else at the front of the group to absorb the head on risk!
  16. Yo Kenny, I would say we were on it an hour or more. That said, let's do it. The next time I'm going to hit up CC I'll ping you. Thanks bud!
  17. Is Corral fully open again? As well as the Pine Valley gate? Haven't been in awhile, but heard it was shut down for a bit. Thanks!

    PanMerca

I think it looks rad. If I were into the ADV scene I'd personally be more drawn to the midsize bikes...but that's because I come from dirt bikes. If I were on a bagger, the PanAm would likely be a decent option for me tiptoe toward the unpaved side. For now, I'll continue to support Harley by loving my FXBB.
  19. A good friend of mine rides with Sedlak (Moto and Enduro) and has only wonderful things to say. I look forward to joining a camp soon.

Clutch cover and Ignition cover guards?

I punched a hole in my ignition cover a couple weeks ago in Baja. Covers would have been nice to have then!
  21. Looking to get out for a ride this coming weekend. Anyone know what's still open? I heard that Ocotillo Wells was closed even to OHV traffic. Is that the case anywhere else? Thinking Superstition or McCain, and interested to hear if anyone knows the status out there. Looking to ride in a sticker area, without a plate requirement. Thanks!

Hey 2 smoke guys, what's the bike to get?

I have a 2001 YZ 250 that's built for the track. The entire bike (motor top + bottom, suspension, controls, plastics, seat, everything) was rebuilt about 8 (engine) hours ago. I had the chance to ride it back-to-back with a 2020 Husky 300 with fuel and oil injection last weekend. The bikes are world's apart. The new 300 has a MUCH smoother power delivery, and almost didn't feel like a 2 stroke with the lack of a wild, surging powerband. It had plenty of power for sure...it was just a lot more linear. It rode well in lower RPMs and everything about it just felt...lovely. Plus the injection runs it nice and lean so you don't spit oil everywhere. I still love my 250 for laps at Fox, but I'll never look at it the same way out in the open desert. If you want a plate, I think your best option is likely an older (already plated?) out of state 250 that's been tuned for trails. Brian mentioned above a 350 EXC, which is the direction I would go if I really needed a plate and wanted something as light as possible. Maybe you can find a used one and throw a Vortex box (or similar) on it to really wind it out.

    What's Open?

    Copy. Thanks all!

    What's Open?

Is “Superstition” basically the riding north of the town of Ocotillo?

    What's Open?

Digging deeper I can see that Lark is closed. So how's Superstition looking these days?
