    Checking in from Vista

If folks are interested I'd be happy to share what I did to the old KX5. Is there a forum appropriate for bike build threads?

Need electrical help on a yz400f

If it doesn't have spark and the stator is aftermarket I can tell you that's very likely the problem. As others have noted, the ignition parts that live outside the motor rarely fail. Aftermarket stators are sometimes tough to diagnose because they're often wound with much different ohm values than the stock stator which makes the value ranges shown in the service manual almost worthless. If you end up replacing the stator and go the WR route you gotta get the WR flywheel and CDI module for it to work. The 00-02 WR stator makes more lighting coil power than the 98-99 stator so the newer ones are better. Also the CDI needs a small wiring mod to plug into the YZ harness but it's easy.
  3. Hey I'm Ben from Vista. Longtime lurker, first time poster. My ever evolving garage currently houses an almost-plated KX500 and an XR80. My previous dualsport was a YZ250 and I've had various XR's and minis over the years too. I don't ride much right now as I'm still fairly fresh out of another ACL rebuild. As part of my previous occupation I was around dirtbikes a lot for 12yrs, particularly electrical systems. I'm married and have two daughters who like to twist the throttle also.
