  1. Loved this area when we did the AZ BDR. The chocolate baby N.F. is fantastic.
  2. Clearly a bypass line and ball bearing failure.
  3. Time to bury it in the backyard with the old pets.
  4. Cool photo worth sharing. Perhaps the first motorcycle, adventure rig set up. The WLA was a true overland bike. Posted a WWII training video also.

    Kriega R15 Backpack

I have been using this pack for the last year and a half. Just big enough for a water bladder, first aid kit, food and some extra tools. I almost forget it is on. Takes a beating also, at least from my crash a lot over the bars style of riding. Hit it with the hose and it cleans up well also.
  6. That is a long day of riding!

    Another good vidy on this...

    KTM Waterproof Tool Bag

Just an fyi that the clips on this pack suck. All four broke on my last ride in Kennedy Meadows with LB. I ended up replacing them with Sea-to-Summit replacement buckles which are a bit more stout. Other than that, it is a nice tool pack.

    That Tunnel

I set off a sensor near this monument and got a grilling from BP. I couldn't read the wording on it and had to get closer to see it. Usually BP is pretty cool but this guy was a D. If you don't want people to read it, take the f'n words off.

    Your Buddies Are Your Salvation

Seems like a poor way to recover the bike. I would have strapped it into a skedco and pulled it up the hill via a winch.

    Tire air thread !

I was told there would be no math in this forum.
  12. It usually starts with a text...."Are you fee, can you ride?"... something along those lines. Well, the stars and wifey hall passes aligned and LB and I were able to make a quick trip up to Kennedy Meadows leaving on Sunday 9/8, riding on Mon-Wed, and coming home on Thursday. On Sunday, LB picked me up at mi casa and we quickly hit the road. We grabbed lunch at the famous (maybe infamous) Astro Burger in Boron along the 395. It is a good burger despite the dilapidated appearance. As we were driving up the 395 and 9 Mile Canyon Road to Kennedy Meadows were met by a ton of trucks and RV's with bikes heading out. It looked like we were going to have the place to ourselves. When we pulled into Troy Meadows campgrounds, it was basically empty except 3-4 other campers! We quickly cracked some cold ones, set up camp, and got ready for the next 3 days of riding. On Monday, after much needed coffee and warming up, we hit the trails. I haven't done any real single track mountain riding so this was a pretty new experience....a lot more technical with working the clutch and rear brake to maneuver through and around tight rocks, trees, and dead fall. We hit Jackass trail, Granite-Broder and Albanita. Jackass has some tight rocky switchbacks which LB cake walked through and I struggled with (wrong gearing and the bike wasn't doing well with the altitude change-it ran boggy on the low end). But all in all it was an awesome day of riding. Carne asada and cold ones for dinner. On Tuesday, I had a better feel for things and we picked up the pace. Somewhere along the trail LB took a branch to the arm that left a nasty bruise. Shortly after that we stopped for a break. After a little grub we both crashed out in the dirt for about 20 mins. A true dirt nap. After a quick siesta we hit the trails again and somewhere I hit a tree pretty hard and broke my hand guard and clutch lever. The handle bar dug into my left leg as I went down. Didn't feel great and I have big purple and yellow bruise to show for it. We eventually made our way back to camp. Burgers and cold ones for dinner. On Wednesday, I was feeling it from two days of riding. After a couple hours my riding turned into a "soup sandwich" per LB. We also ran into a small lighting fire which we called in with the InReach. It turns out the USFS had been monitoring it for the last week, but we ran into two USFS crews who were walking in to secure it. Pollo asada and cold ones for dinner. Back to reality on Thursday. A few pics. LB took the good ones.
  13. Barkbusters are on order. And that last section of "Soup Sandwich" trail we were on was actually pretty straightforward with nothing super technical. Fatigue was starting to set in and that is when I started dumping it, running into things, and yes, going over the handlebars into the "mud pit". All good times.

    Satellite tracker/SOS device

I use the older style DeLorme InReach SE. Works very well (especially when bluetooth paired with your phone) and is nice to be able to have two way communications with home.

    Your Buddies Are Your Salvation

Wow....lucky guy. That could have been really bad. I would like to see the video of the bike retrieval. Probably need a winch to pull it up.

Hog Electrics - New York Times Moto Intro

This is the first year of the MotoE series in MotoGP. Most of the riders are former MotoGP riders or Moto2 riders so the racing is decent. Not quite on par with the current MotoGP skillset, but still fun to watch. This is clearly the future of racing .

In need of a Divorce Lawyer/ Lawyer help!

Mike: Just saw this. Bruce Beals and Richard Feuerstein are both two very well respected divorce lawyers and are well known by the family court judges. It helps to have a lawyer that has some credibility just walking into the court room. Paul is right that the best divorce scenario is deescalation of conflict, but it takes two to deescalate. Stay away from the firms that advertise. They are mills and have to take everybody that comes in the door to pay for the advertising. https://fmb.law/

    Tire suggestions

Like Brian said, Desert Maxxis IT is a really good, long lasting rear tire. I use their front also.

Just a heads up on Crawdaddy

My crash was further up the trail just as you turn onto it, but in a similar rut system. They will get you.

Just a heads up on Crawdaddy

That spot were he crashed is a mess. Easy place to get caught out. Speedy recovery!
  21. Two up. Freakin' awesome! The few dirt'ish rides I have done with the GF/now wifey two up were really challenging. You did stuff two up most guys would balk at riding solo.
  22. Enjoy....Ensenada to La Paz on bikes making single digit hp. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=efpajlbY2lE p.s. Motortrend on Demand has some great shows...my only online paid subscription because I refuse to pay for the garbage on cable TV these days.
  23. Some of the tech discussions, Throttle Out Garage, are pretty good. The bike reviews, Throttle Out Commute, are excellent.
  24. That motorcyclist is traveling so fast for that particular road that during the driver's initial look left or even last look he may not have been visible. The speed reduces the perception and reaction time for the motorcyclist and leaves him essentially no options... Even hard front braking at that point will not slow you down enough to avoid the impact.
