ACTION NEEDED- New Locked Gate on Thing Valley
Honda90 replied to KTMrad's topic in Important Issues, Environmental-Land Use Issues, Important Meetings & Local Information
I rode down from the top (Sunrise) yesterday (October 4) and the gate, signs, and bulldozer are all still there. Last time I rode through there was in March. I found a realty website that said the property sold in June. Bummer; I only get out a couple times a year, and that was part of my regular route. -
Yes. I do all that stuff. But I can see the temptation to just take off for a spin if you live that close to a riding area. It’s like riding in your backyard.

The oversized tank takes the place of the shrouds.

Looks like he did go down on the right side. Ugh. So sad.

Devastating news. So sorry for his family.

His family asked volunteers to stage at Pio Pico Campground.

This is something I have wondered about. If I have cell coverage, is dialing 911 a better/faster option than SPOT SOS? -

Thinking more about this. That bit about the difference speed makes in negotiating sand - my son is always telling me it will be easier if I stop holding back. But I am always thinking, "How fast do I want to be going when I finally go down." Also, would a SPOT device have worked better/faster than a cellphone in summoning help? And would you be charged for the evac/rescue if you used your own SPOT to rescue a stranger? -

I had my Danner's stretched and resoled at Carl's Boot Repair off Second in El Cajon. Work seems solid. Price was fair.

Keep and bear arms: 1. Keep it locked away, unloaded, inoperable, inaccessible. 2. Bear. Unlock it in order to lawfully punch holes in paper at an indoor range for $30 per hour. 'Merica. -

Good on you for that! Wish I could have been there. To honor his life and death we should get serious about ISIS and bomb them back to the hell that spawned them. God bless our military Patriots and those who honor them. -
Man-o-man I just watched a video of trail collisions. In several of them one guy would bail to the right, and the oncoming guy would just follow him. Target fixation I think. I wear hiviz always. I only ride weekdays. And I'm slow and old. Too old to fare well in a head-on.

McCain Closure Rumors
Honda90 posted a topic in Important Issues, Environmental-Land Use Issues, Important Meetings & Local Information
My buddy's neighbor commented to him that he should ride McCain while he can because the wind turbine project will mean closures. Anyone know anything? http://iberdrolarenewables.us/tulewind/about/index.html -
Last Day of Winter Riding Dual Dual Sport - 19Mar16
Honda90 replied to Travis Gill's topic in 1 to 3 Day Ride Write-Ups, Stories and Photos
Nice ride and report. Did you have to do the ride-around on Thing? (I have never seen the south gate open.) And did you continue down to La Posta TT, or go Fred Canyon to Kitchen Creek to 80? -
Not sure it being a pumper would effect the open throttle clearing method. I have a pumper on my DR, and I successfully use that method to start after falls: Hold compression release, open throttle, 8-10 kicks. Then two twists of throttle and kick. Hope you got it figured out.

That is priceless. Congratulations!

Thing and Fred being "re-evaluated for opening" ?
Honda90 replied to tvscum's topic in Open Discussion
They always close Thing, Kitchen, Filaree Flats, and others when the road bed is soft. Some of those have a ride-around for horses (bikes).
