This kind of thing makes me think I should invest in one of those tracker devices that allow two way communication and that tracks you while you ride so someone knows where you're at. Jimmy Lewis talked about this in one of his podcasts. Apparently he goes out a lot on his own. He says if he stops anywhere for more then an hour he will shoot a text to his wife. If she doesn't get that text, then she knows to send help.
In the worst case at least your family would know fairly quickly, and in any other case, help might get to you in time.
Yes. I do all that stuff. But I can see the temptation to just take off for a spin if you live that close to a riding area. It’s like riding in your backyard.

The oversized tank takes the place of the shrouds.

Devastating news. So sorry for his family.

Guess I'll DM OP on facebook but if anyone here has the info, pls share.

His family asked volunteers to stage at Pio Pico Campground.

Good headlight, man.

Very nice. If you ever decide to part with one of your Kawies, I'm interested.

This is something I have wondered about. If I have cell coverage, is dialing 911 a better/faster option than SPOT SOS?

Thinking more about this. That bit about the difference speed makes in negotiating sand - my son is always telling me it will be easier if I stop holding back. But I am always thinking, "How fast do I want to be going when I finally go down."
Also, would a SPOT device have worked better/faster than a cellphone in summoning help? And would you be charged for the evac/rescue if you used your own SPOT to rescue a stranger?

Wow, man. That is crazy. Great job!

I had my Danner's stretched and resoled at Carl's Boot Repair off Second in El Cajon. Work seems solid. Price was fair.

So many safeguards put in place by anti-2nd Amendment folks that basically render a firearm useless while on the road.
And, regarding thugs, the weapons charge is the first thing that defense attorneys attempt to drop as the enhancement is a doosie; and they're successful most of the time, in my experience. Whereas the Regular Joe charged with improper carry is hammered.
Sigh...
Keep and bear arms:
1. Keep it locked away, unloaded, inoperable, inaccessible.
2. Bear. Unlock it in order to lawfully punch holes in paper at an indoor range for $30 per hour.
'Merica.

Dude. That was mucho righteous. Thanks.

Good on you for that! Wish I could have been there.
To honor his life and death we should get serious about ISIS and bomb them back to the hell that spawned them.
God bless our military Patriots and those who honor them.

Man-o-man I just watched a video of trail collisions. In several of them one guy would bail to the right, and the oncoming guy would just follow him. Target fixation I think.
I wear hiviz always. I only ride weekdays. And I'm slow and old. Too old to fare well in a head-on.

Nice ride and report. Did you have to do the ride-around on Thing? (I have never seen the south gate open.) And did you continue down to La Posta TT, or go Fred Canyon to Kitchen Creek to 80?

Not sure it being a pumper would effect the open throttle clearing method. I have a pumper on my DR, and I successfully use that method to start after falls: Hold compression release, open throttle, 8-10 kicks. Then two twists of throttle and kick.
Hope you got it figured out.

That is priceless. Congratulations!

Man, that was cool; thanks for posting. Was the train track scary? Looks like it would though to turn around.

I vote sidecar.

Been wondering about a our El Niño myself. Siri is saying 4 days of rain next week. My son already planted his garden; hope it doesn't wash away.

They always close Thing, Kitchen, Filaree Flats, and others when the road bed is soft. Some of those have a ride-around for horses (bikes).

H-90 "The upshot: They never even asked for his ID. What? "Yeah, we don't have a right to ask for his ID; and he knows that. If he shows up again, call us, and we'll arrest him for trespassing because now he's been warned." Really? And how will you know it's the same guy. You don't even know who he is because you never asked for his ID. (I generally support LE. Just a bit frustrated with these particular deputies. I think he intimidated them out of doing their job.)"
Or they just knew the law: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kolender_v._Lawson
And I'm sure they knew just how much support they'd get from the public if they stepped just a teensy bit over the line to "help".....
Hard to believe something more wasn't done with the Jeep - THAT is frustrating.
Point taken. I apologize for my ignorance. I guess my point is that this guy was not merely a loiterer or a wanderer. He was menacing. They decided to not check for ID before they even interviewed the one who was making a complaint (me). Totally agree about the community support. This protest-the-police culture will be the death of us. When people lose respect for authority and fear of punishment, we are done.

I rode down from the top (Sunrise) yesterday (October 4) and the gate, signs, and bulldozer are all still there. Last time I rode through there was in March. I found a realty website that said the property sold in June. Bummer; I only get out a couple times a year, and that was part of my regular route.
