...Me too. We have a couple acres of parking (camping?) space (locked at night), plus indoor space to hang out, cook or use restrooms. In Santee near the junction of 52 and 125.

Wow, man. Hope it heals up 100%. So did it break when you put your hand down?
-
My kids are at it again; check'em out.

They'll be back at Kaffee Meister in Santee on Friday June 13 7-9pm. Thanks!

Trying to help my son install a kickstart return spring; broke the case. What's the next step (after crying)? Should I buy a case on ebay? Is there a local salvage? Should I buy a donor bike or a full motor? Bewildered and sick.

Just destroyed right side case 2000 XR600R

Update. Thank you guys. Sorry that I missed your craigslist links. Thank you for trying to help us. I bought a right side only from eBay. Ben pulled the motor and we took it to Allen Fox of Fox Engine Works in Alpine. He swapped everything with new gaskets and o-rings, etc, and "cut" the exhaust valves for $695. Ben re-installed the motor in one afternoon. It started third kick, and now it starts first kick almost every time and runs perfectly. (Even his Mikuni 41 which was a mess magically began to work great. We did shoot various orifices with WD40 while we had it off the bike.) As for the matching, there is something to that. We have one leak in the top of the case behind the head. Allen said he did treat it with sealant due to their being mismatched, and that he would make it seal if we would bring it back. I googled the issue and found that Permatex makes a spray designed to seal low-pressure leaks from the outside. We may try that. I like Allen Fox and plan to use him in the future. He seems honest, sincere, and competent. Thanks again for all your advice. So glad this chapter of bike debacles is over. -
Thanks, Kkug! I finally got to meet a moto celebrity! Very nice to meet you.

Given the time, I'm guessing he was headed to work. Sad. http://www.nbcsandiego.com/news/local/Motorcyclist-Killed-After-Collision-with-Deer-Campo-Tecate-San-Diego-258458251.html

If I can determine that this will fit in my old DR350 housing, I'm going to do it. Thanks for posting.

Wow! The winds, huh? I read that they had 100mph+ gusts. Monday was perfect. -
Boulder Creek/Eagle Peak Road
Honda90 replied to Mikey777's topic in 1 to 3 Day Ride Write-Ups, Stories and Photos
I ended up doing that route this past Monday. I'm not too fond of the wide gravel sections; always worrying about oncoming traffic. But that stretch between the gates was a blast, especially going south. -
Some pics of my kids' recent adventures around California set to a gorgeous old hymn. Makes me want to get out there. The boys are performing Friday, May 9 from 7-9pm at Kaffeemeister in Santee. Ben on acoustic and bass (XR600R and 250L) Jameson on electric (XR200R) Joseph on drums (TTR250) Ben's FB page is at benowens.com

This one's all acoustic. Have a great day. http://vimeo.com/90726777

Wow. That is the kind of riding I wish I had learned when I was young (and a little more durable.)

Fun!! -
Thanks guys! I will try to remember to post their next gig. Meanwhile, Ben has a FB page at www.benowens.com. Strega, Tommy has been a great friend and an incredible mentor to these guys. When he comes to town he always makes time to sit and listen to the boys and encourage them. I can't say enough good things about Tommy. At the end of the video Ben's Ibanez is sitting in Tommy's old dread case. Tommy gave it to him at their first meeting in 2005. Too cool. Cheers!

Noob ride tomorrow?
Honda90 replied to TdubLady's topic in Informal Local Rides & Who's Going Riding!
There is an old paved route (with some dirt too if you want it) out the back of Pine Valley that goes all the way to Sunrise Hiway. Hang a left at the top (Sunrise Hiway), and Julian is about 30 minutes away. Also, check out Engineer Road, Boulder Creek, Cedar Creek, and Viejas Grade for other adventurous routes. More fun and way fewer cars. Check your Googles. Hope you have fun. -
not really a ride report
Honda90 replied to bikeslut's topic in 1 to 3 Day Ride Write-Ups, Stories and Photos
Understand. I am always with my kids, and I never relish the idea of a collision on Bear Valley. We've seem some pretty reckless people on side by sides on the way back at dusk. We try to hand signal that more people are coming behind us, but they don't seem to pay any attention. -

That KLR looks like a dirt bike; that's awesome. Was it scary going through the rock patch? How 'bout going back up? I am always relieved to be past that section. -
