  1. I'm no expert, but I think they are on the other side of the mountain... there is one very rocky steep hill (Spaugh has promised "free lunch" to a no dabs ascent) right on Otay, as the main fire road goes right, there is a short Spur to the left... STRAIGHT in front of you... Join us this Sunday, and Rick will show us some new stuff... NO BROKEN BONES GUYS Thank you so much. We went the first day of the last storm and got rained out at the top of the mountain. My first time south of 94. Sundays are out for me.
  2. Where are the hill climbs relative to Otay Truck Trail?
  3. Thanks, Ryde, for the info. The folks at Pio Pico let us park for free. We explored until the rain took visibility down to about 50 feet. Never been there, but we're going back for sure. Thanks, Phil
  4. Thanks, man. Gotta get over there.

    Golden tire Gt216AA

Thanks for posting this. I will be buying this tire based on your experience. I need all the help I can get in the sand. Did you get it somewhere local?

    sunday November 9-

It's always steaper than it looks on video. That was cool. How 'bout them mirrors? If I had mirrors that worked, I would be a lot more confident on asphalt. Thanks for posting.
  9. The Polar Bear Plungers Classic Hill Climb Form (He's the biggest kid you'll ever see on an XR200!) Inherited From His Father Another shot of the mighty DR Ok one more of the King of Bikes
  10. Last week in October; we beat the first significant snow by one day! Weather was similar to our Lagunas. Stayed in a rental condo on Gull lake. Did daily rides. Rode small, air-cooled thumpers and a Kawasaki Mule. Trail conditions were dry and very sandy. The route between June and Mammoth is mostly sand; I believe it was over 35 miles one-way. The rides were awesome. For me the best part is exploring new areas. We also saw deer every day, both on the highway and on the trail. Near Tioga, over-looking Mono Lake In Town Along the June Loop Riding Photo uploader is stalling out. Guess I have to stop now.
  11. Yes, my screen name was Phil (because I fouled it up during registration; finally got it changed to what I originally wanted). Honda90 is significant because that was my "adventure bike" as a kid. Yep, the boys will be doing show at Kaffee Meister in Santee on Friday 11/14 from 7-9, than a big concert at our church on Sunday, December 14 at 5pm, followed by our annual soup supper. Details here https://www.facebook.com/events/834125959966197/?ref=5 The bottle on my headlight cowl is the tank for my air horn. I'm sort of phobic about surviving; hence the crazy reflectors, hi-viz clothes, armor, survival tailpack, Camelbak, Spot tracker, and air horn. It was only 20 bucks on Amazon and it's been going strong for a year-and-a-half. I carry a small pump so I can recharge it if necessary. Them ain't quiches, 'em are man-pies Hope you all have some awesome adventures this riding season!
  12. Wow. That's the craziest water crossing ever!!

    quieting down

I have an old SuperTrapp that kills my head, and my helmet makes it worse. I also have tinnitus from hunting and shooting in my youth. Ya gotta wear ear plugs if your exhaust is loud, and I do 100% of the time. The problem is they lock me in with my screeching ears, blocking out any masking noises. My son has a Q series FMF on his XR600 which is much quieter than my ST. I plan to switch to the FMF and get a quieter helmet so maybe I can run without plugs and enjoy the ambient noise. Good luck.
  14. Congratulations! How 'bout that trail? My first time through a branch got me in the trottle hand and almost launched me into the ravine. Did you go inside the mine? It goes back about about 30-40 feet. Bats and mice and stuff that looks like gold! Love that whole area.
  15. Glad these guys are making good gear for our warriors.
  16. Awesome. Headed to June Lake and environs end of this month. Thanks for the teaser.

    XR600R

My son has an XR600R with a Mikuni 41mm vacuum carb; it's junk. He's looking to replace it without spending a furtune. Wondering about the TM40 pumper that's used on the DR650. Anyone have any experience getting one jetted for an XR600R. Any other suggestions? We're sorta desperate - his current carb is totally unreliable, and we're doing the Eastern Sierras at the end of this month. Thanks!

    XR600R

Wow. Thank you, Robert. That looks like the way to go. The motor has just been torn down and reassembled to replace a broken case. So all valve adjustments, etc., are fresh. This carb has been a problem since he bought the bike last year. It runs like a banchee, and then it will suddenly not do more than about half throttle - sputtering and leaking gas out the over flow. He just cleaned it and is reinstalling it right now. We'll see. Thanks again! Phil

Riding In The Heat! My Two Cents!

Good topic. Thanks for posting your tricks. I got heat exhaustion in 100 temps at CC a few weeks ago. I had my 100oz camelbak on but just was not drinking enough. We had to douse me with water and it took about a half-hour before I felt good enough to ride. Tight trails are a workout like any other exercise ; you just don't think of them in that way. Gotta check into that Hammer nutrition stuff.

I love that section, 'specially the hilly parts.
  21. Never been on that section. Looks brutal.
