    STOLEN 2006 FORD F-250

Point taken. I apologize for my ignorance. I guess my point is that this guy was not merely a loiterer or a wanderer. He was menacing. They decided to not check for ID before they even interviewed the one who was making a complaint (me). Totally agree about the community support. This protest-the-police culture will be the death of us. When people lose respect for authority and fear of punishment, we are done.

    STOLEN 2006 FORD F-250

WOW!! Just Wow! What in the world?! (Not to hijack the thread, but...) Last night we heard ASTREA fly over; then a few minutes later we heard something go bump outside. We look around and find a dude lying under a set of stairs on one of our buildings. I shine my light in his face and ask if he's running from the cops. He commences to curse me to no end. I call 911 and he reluctantly leaves while cursing me at the top of his lungs. Deputies arrive in 20 minutes. He's hanging out under a freeway overpass just up the block. He curses them and talks (shouts) circles around them. Totally non-compliant. He berates the cops at the top of his lungs for 15 minutes. It becomes a one-man black lives matter protest gone wrong. The upshot: They never even asked for his ID. What? "Yeah, we don't have a right to ask for his ID; and he knows that. If he shows up again, call us, and we'll arrest him for trespassing because now he's been warned." Really? And how will you know it's the same guy. You don't even know who he is because you never asked for his ID. (I generally support LE. Just a bit frustrated with these particular deputies. I think he intimidated them out of doing their job.) Hoping you get your truck back in good shape. Oh yeah. The dude is my new neighbor. (Welcome to the neighborhood.)

Thank you for keeping us safe here at home! Welcome back!
  7. I'm looking for advice on noise isolating earbuds. My foam plugs work great at protecting me from exhaust, tire, wind noise, etc. But they also lock me in with the screeching in my head. It sort of offsets the pleasure of being out in the woods. So I'm looking to add a bit of music to the mix - without losing much attenuation. Sound quality is not a big issue; I just need something to mask the screeching. Anybody tried these? http://www.amazon.com/Plugfones-Contractor-Improved-Headphones-Protection/dp/B00RC301N4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1439232041&sr=8-1&keywords=plugfones Thanks, Phil

    Tinnitus Torment

OK. So I went with the plugfones: $25 on Amazon. I got both the foamies and the rubber with flanges. The flanged ones work best. They do not isolate as well as mormal ear plugs - but enough to be safe. Then I add music, or frogs and a stream, or a campfire and a rainstorm - and voila, my screaching is about 70% masked, my hearing is protected, and I have some nice ambient noise. One of the hassles with plugs is removing and reinserting when you take breaks. Sometimes I just leave them in to save trouble; but that leaves me out of any conversations. Solution: I found an app called Ear Machine that turns my phone into a hearing aid. So when I stop, I can just switch between music or masking sounds to the Ear Machine app. Now I can converse without removing plugs, or even helmet. This is a relatively cheap fix to a vexing problem. I hope this helps someone else.

    Cold Clutch Grab...

Tried holding in the clutch for a few seconds before engaging again this morning. Perfect. Though I would not be surprised if the clutch basket needs some help. Carb, clutch, timing chain, all cables were worn out when I bought it. I had someone extend the cam chain tensioner about 1500 miles ago. So the next project is to fix it right. Thanks again.
  15. ...Not sure what to call this. Recently replaced my clutch cable, and this one seemed to have a lot of stretch in it. I've had to adjust it quite a few times since install. Now at cold start-up my bike lurches and stalls when I put it in first. I kick it over, allow about 45 seconds for warm-up, pull in the clutch, punch it into gear - and it acts like the clutch is out. Works normal after a another minute of riding. Shifts good, etc. This is my third cable, never had this trouble with the other two. Any idears? Thanks, Phil

    Cold Clutch Grab...

Thanks guys. Curious thing - if I hold the lever in for the last 15 seconds of warmup it works perfect. Maybe an oil thing? Hmmm.
  17. Cool. I wanna ride.

Mammoth Lakes /Crowley Lake area trails?

We did the trail that connects Mammoth to June Lake loop. Lot of fun with lots of sand. You end up across the street from the Shell station at 395 and 158. Then from the Shell station you can cross 395 and there are some really nice gravel roads as well as some really sandy ones that follow the pole line. Crater loop is a nice ride. (I think you could ride all the way to Mono Lake from there if you didn't get tired of the sand.) At the other end of 158 (June Lake loop) there are some cool mountainous rides; mostly good fire roads. Some go almost all the way up to Tioga pass. They begin across 158 from Grant Lake. There are also dirt routes into Bodie Ghost Town and from there to Bridgeport. Huge, wide open country. (Hay's St. Cafe in Bridgeport serves a mean breakfast.) Have fun!

    helmet light

23 bucks on Amazon. Used their existing mount with zip ties. Velcroed my original battery pack to my Camelbak and lost it in the Sierras. Replaced it for $16. Though I leave it mounted to my helmet, I've only used it a couple times. This one is a spot beam (Amazon has floods too). It definitely helps. I found the top mount reflected dust like crazy. Jaw mount was much better. Cheers.
  22. Brag all you want, pops; you're not bragging on yourself. That's what kids are for. Nice work.
