Fastest flat repair ever," at night," Santiago Peak
Honda90 replied to a topic in Equipment & Technical Forum
That ain't nuthin. I installed my son's new rear tire here at home. It took me 2 hours and I punctured his sooper dooper thick, expensive tube in the process. Then I ran a can of fixaflat in it, and it still leaks; he's been having to pump it up every day to ride in the yard. (I'm really getting interested in that Tubliss system.) -

Congratulations! Fire up the smoker! Glad you found your spot!

Ear plugs. I have tinnitus (and you will too if don't protect your ears) and my helmet actually magnifies exhaust noise. After my first ride (75 miles) my ears were screaming worse than ever. I have to wear plugs every time. Some day I hope to get a pair of those custom molded ones, but for now foamies help a lot. Also looking forward to trading my Supertrapp for an FMF.

I have the same gun. The Colibri ammo will not do the job; unless you get a head shot, it won't even kill a squirrel. Years ago I dropped a coyote with a CB short to the head, as it was all I had handy at the time; but for the most part .22 is just not enough. I have taken several with .22Mag however. But it is LOUD - especially out of the Single-Six.

This one died suddenly while looking for a meal about 12 feet from my back door.

Good choice! They would have a rough time with your dog. We replaced Alice with another rescued Bull-Mix. I have a friend who lives on the north edge of Santee. His male Pitbull has survived 5 coyote fights. There may be an exception to the firearms rule with regards to protecting your own animals. I am not sure if it applies to livestock only or to domestic pets as well. My neighbor dumped 2 of his neighbors dogs with a 22 as they were mauling his poultry. The dog owner called the Sheriff and he, not the shooter, was found to be at fault for not keeping his dogs in the yard. Yeah, I don't blame them, but I don't buy the they-were-here-first stuff. Firstly, coyotes have vastly expanded their own range since the pioneer days. Secondly, this land belongs to humans; we pay taxes, manage resources, run the show, etc. I have a right and duty to defend my peeps, pets, and possessions. Coyotes have ZERO rights.

Here's one for all the domestics that have been picked off. My dear bully-mutt Alice caught this half-grown coyote in our yard and cut its career short. Unfortunately, Alice's own prey drive compelled her to escape and hunt our surrounding fields until she finally ended up on the freeway. Caltrans corridors actually serve as a wilderness route for coyotes in urban areas. We have several hundred feet of chain link which coyotes regularly dig under. In the winter and spring pairs of coyotes often challenge my dog at the fence at night. One will charge the fence and race back and forth with the dog while the second waits about 30 feet away. I think the program is to tire the dog and then attack.

Wow. I've been to that park. That had to be awesome. The shutdown is nothing. Kalifornia just banned hunting with lead ammo. Sickening.

Am I missing something? Do you guys have a referral for a carb purchase? Thanks, Phil

Can you hear angels singing? Runs perfect. I even installed it without breaking anything. Clutch is next.

That is righteous. Congratulations!

Need a basic kit for the boonies. Do you all buy them whole or build them from scratch? Brands preferred or avoided? What about packs? Also, I've seen a few posts about lost fender packs. Is there a fail safe mounting system? Thanks, Phil

Wow. This is cool!

Oh, I forgot. I have been carrying wrenches in 8, 10, and 12mm, and a spare clutch lever. The good news is we've been out one full day each month this year with zero flats. I'm running 606s. I've heard you run them flat in an emergency. True or no?

Good point, Bob. I have replaced throttle and brake cables. I do keep my oil fairly fresh and everything lubed, tight, etc. The carb was pretty worn when I got it. It needed to be replaced but I didn't want to spend the money. Now I have no choice. Next in line is my clutch, then the cam chain - Next year hopefully. Tomorrow I'm going to install a new rear tire for my youngest. I need the practice.

Thank you guys. I gotta get busy. I've been carrying a leatherman, a can of fix-a-flat, and some emergency camping gear. Since I broke my carb last week I've been thinking about forming a kit. However, today while trying to repair the carb I destroyed it. Not sure how I would do wrenching in the dirt. Plus, when I change a tire it takes about 2 hours; I don't know how you guys do it.

Thanks, Tom, I called Jesse, bit the bullet and bought his carb - jetted and with idle/air mix screw for $289. Thanks so much for your help! Phil

Trying to save money by doing myself. I snapped the brass bolt that is the pivot point for the accelerator pump lever. It didn't actually snap; it was more like a smear. In any case, it's broken off in the carb body rendering the whole thing useless. I had been told that the carb body is worn; time for a new one anyway I guess. I think I just need a stock carb. I guess my question pertains to whether or not a 215 dollar carb is lacking something.

My kid just bought this. He's going to be impossible to live with (or keep up with) now.

One of my favorite places in the world. Every time seems like the first time. Never done it on a bike. Congratulations.

That's awesome. Great job. -
We did a 50-mile loop from the Cul-de-sac over Kernan, then the long road around Corral canyon, up to the tower and back up Kernan. My throttle valve is worn and it causes the needle to rattle which ultimately fatigues and snaps it. I was a little over two miles from the truck when it broke this time. I had an idea that I could walk my idling DR350 through sand and up hills and then coast the downhills. Boy was I wrong; jogging beside an idling bike on a rutted trail is a workout I was not prepared for. I Made it maybe 200 yards before I started to think about how stupid it would be to have a heart attack. Fortunately I was able to call my son who was already at the truck. He towed me up the hills and I coasted down them. We were out in half an hour. The ride otherwise was an absolute blast. My bike is such a tractor; I love it. This morning I ordered a new slide and 2 needles.

Righteous!! You're a genius. I gotta study this and put a kit together. My kids had to tow (and be towed) some months ago before I got my bike. They had no experience, and the the towed bike ran over the rope causing both bikes to crash. Fortunately injuries and damage were minimal.

Que es esto Strega system? We used para cord. My son chugged us up the fire road hills in first on his old XR250L. I have not ridden I towed bike since I was about 12. It's purdy sketchy. Also weird was coasting down hills without power. Without power my bike feels I'm like riding a pig, and sounds like rattling junk.
