  1. Happy birthday!

    DR 650

I commute on an 01 DR650 and I have the IMS 4.9. I rejetted though and only get about 38mpg(?), so I may switch it up to the big tank. I get about 170 miles per fillup.

I have a DR650 and actually had it out at Ocotillo Wells at Poleline Rd over the weekend. It did pretty well in the sand, even for having a Kenda rear tire that is more street biased. I rode it all the way out there to. I only dumped it one time in the sand because I was going too slow. I ride my DR daily and have a big tank. I'm 5'10 and I definitely prefer it to the XR650 I tried out. On the XR I was could barely the ground and it had a lowering link. I can almost flatfoot on my DR at a stop. I haven't dragged the belly on anything yet either. Just some food for thought.

    Scouting ride April 7th

I'm possibly game for this ride.
  6. Glad Palomar was saved, it's my local park! Honestly it's creepy going through it now and having no one there.
  7. I drove up in my Subaru on Monday, definitely fun in the snow! Nice pictures, good thing you have some good knobby tires.
  8. I had an XR75 when I was younger too! I drove up Nate Harrison yesterday in my Subaru, got up to around 4,000' and hit the snow! It was glorious! At the summit through the campground it was about 2 feet deep!
  9. Thanks everyone for the compliments! Hey Wingnut, this Detroiter is gonna have to take you up on that!
  10. Thanks everyone! That XL230 is a 2003, even has a factory alarm! The engine is straight out of the CRF230 but a 5 speed and geared lower. It's got the emissions equipment too. Re-jetted it and a custom pipe, all custom paint and the front fender.
  11. I mistakenly posted my ride report in the Informal rides section so I thought I should post in the proper area! So I went up today and did Nate Harrison on my new bike. Have been there many times before but it was on my XL230 I brought back to the U.S. from Japan. Had a nice time, it was cool and not very sunny. Came across the Road Closed sign, was not closed though. As I went to make the turn from the 76 to Nate Harrison I missed it and had to turn around. I saw something out of the corner of my eye, a Silver Porsche 911 GT3(street legal racecar you can get from the factory) and it made the turn after me. Once I got to the straight away I caught him in my mirrors switching lanes and he proceeded to blast past me. He didn't blow me around or anything but it was weird getting passed. I figured he had no idea it turned into a dirt road because he was really flying through the turns and dips. Then I saw him stopped and turning around. Turns out he was exploring with GPS trying to find a new twisty road and his wife was sitting in the passenger space with a smile ear to ear. I stopped and talked with him and he was a pretty nice guy. We parted ways and I began my ascent. It was a pretty fun day but my back tire has had it. Got up above the cloud level and it started getting pretty cold, even saw snow on the sides of the road after I got through the camp ground(which is slated for permanent closure in July http://www.friendsofpalomarsp.org/ Save Palomar) The dirt was nice and dry almost all the way up, you could see where it had been pretty soaked and muddy though. All in all a nice ride. Caught some sprinkles as I got into Oceanside but it was just mist. Got home about an hour ago and grilled myself a nice Ribeye and had a cold Karl Strauss! This time. Last time. This is actually my wife's bike, she bought it new in Japan and I thought it was too unique to leave there so I shipped it back with us. We still have my wife's girl too, she's a lifer with us!

Thanks Trophy! Yep, still have the Honda, that bike isn't going anywhere, it's a lifer for us! I think I will stick this in the Ride Reports section too, just now noticed that,

Well I'm off. If you see a guy on a DR650(me) wearing red gear, say hi.
  15. Who wants to go up to Palomar? I am in Oceanside and wanna go now.
