    640a help, please

hi runner, i'm thinking the engine and trans trouble are 2 different issues also. i believe the fluid on the motor, at the hydraulic line junction with the gearbox, is leaking from that junction (i probably should have used the term "fluid" rather than "oil" -- again, that technical writing biting me in the caboose). i don't know if the trans causing the motor to stop suddenly could do any damage to the connecting internals. i'm going to post this on ktmtalk, per cal (thanks for the suggestion) and see if anyone responds. again, i appreciate any/all input. regards, johnnyg

    640a help, please

thanks for the quick response pmb and cal... i appreciate the time. so, when i referred to the clutch "fade", i meant that the hydraulic lever actuation fades, like when air is in a brake line. the clutch wouldn't disengage when i pulled the lever in my skid. sorry my terminology was off... technical writing is harder than i thought! on the freeway, i think that the gearbox jammed and forced the motor to quit. with the bike stopped, i got it into neutral and the motor turned over, but wouldn't catch. there are no new rattles that my semi-deaf ears can discern, so i'm hopeful i didn't break something inside the motor. the oil isn't pooling or anything, a small amount (enough to hold dirt, but not dripping) is collected around where the hydraulic line goes into the gearbox from the lever -- i think the oil is from the line/gearbox junction weeping. i'll attend to the weeping there and at the shifter/kickstart shaft when i open the gearbox. i really appreciate any insights... regards, johnnyg
  3. how are you getting out there, and in what part of sd county do you live? i'm interested, but don't want to slab it solo all the way out there. i'm on an '03 640a. -- johnnyg

    budget GPS

not trying to hijack here, but i'm comparing the 76cx and the new 78 due to the discussion here... are the internal memory and wireless sharing worth the $50 price difference? i'm brand new to gps shopping and am getting ready to pull the trigger on one -- west marine in o'side has six units left of the 76cx and unless there's a real upgrade, i'd just as soon save some $. i'm looking to you all to tell me how to part with my money. thanks, johnnyg

    hello,

i'm john, johnnyg to my friends. i'm relatively new to powered offroad riding, though i've been mtbing for many years. had a streetbike some years ago, an fj1200, and spent a lot of time on the roads throughout sd. i've always loved exploring, be it cycling new england's country lanes (i'm from ma), or bushwhacking ridgelines in the colorado mountains, i get giddy with anticipation wondering "what's over that next hill?". i got my ktm 640adv about a year ago, and have been trying to increase my time spent in dirt. i live in encinitas and usually slab it out ramona/santa ysabel/julian area -- my brother lives in julian and works at the candied apple there. stop in and try a crackaroon - you won't regret it! more recently, grapevine/culp/jasper and rodriguez/oriflamme. i'm signed up for the may ride/camp, as the first one was fun -- at least the parts i rode with them. i stumbled onto that ride at the hideout, and joined blake and scott's group till they headed to camp and i headed home (thanks, guys!). my work schedule is sun-wed, and so i can ride all day thur and/or fri, unless there's surf, in which case i ride after. keep the rubber side down, johnnyg

    hello,

xc rider (craig, if i remember correctly?), we met briefly at the hideout, on the "porch" -- then your son came out and asked for $$ and you went inside.
