  1. You missed a fantastic ride. One that will be difficult to forget and one that will go down as one of my best. Tim and Took off from Tecate as originally planned and actually ran into Sandra on her Husky 510 and three or four others in her group. They hadn't gotten past El Compadra and they had already experenced two flat tires. (one front on one rear). Tim and I went through and had lunch at Valley T where it was actually fairly warm. (somewhere in the high 80's) and was at Mike's by 3:00 that same afternoon and sat at the bar drinking Coke's (no beer for me) and it actually started rainning shortly before dark for about an hour and there was still no sign of Sandra and her group. About an hour after dinner, Eric (Sandra's group leader) and another one of his friends finally showed up without the others in their group. He was exhausted and said the others were on their way. Evidently they had another tire failure and the talent of riders I guess was pretty limited. I went to bed and the others in Sandra's group finally showed up (I was lights out and didn't hear a thing) The next day Tim and I took off sometime around 9:00 and took off back to Tecate. We got to Rancho Catarina (not sure of the spelling) and it started pouring down rain. It was a blast because it wasn't all that cold and the traction was epic. We rode east n/e up into the pine forest before heading back west to the cross over trail heading north to the road up to the Saw Mill where we got fuel. From there we went up and around Laguna Hanson and by then the rain had stopped while we continued north up to the cross over trail back to El Compadra and back to Tecate. We did run into a little issue crossing the border when some big A-Hole from Home Land Security didn't appreciate us cutting into line without "asking permission of the lady behind us" I said ... Oh Officer. We are so sorry. We will never do that again. How inconsiderate of us" The guy was a Dick but he let us continue for which he really didn't have much choice. Hope to catch up and ride again sometime soon. Joe
  2. Was suppose to do Mike's this weekend (today and tomorrow) but I had to work until mid-night last night (Last minute Adams Ave. Street Fair issues) Two others and I, are going to Mike's this next weekend Oct. 1st & 2nd. Plan on leaving Tecate at around 7:00-7:30 on Saturday and riding the old Baja 500 course east side of the highway between Ojos and Valle Trinidad and up to Mike's. This is about a 175 mile ride each way. This isn't a "race" but looking for one or two other experienced riders with well maintained bikes. You will need a minimum of 100 mile fuel range with well equipped tool bag and back-pack. joejacksonjr@aol.com (619) 316-6500
  3. I wonder about a approx route? Something to show how much dirt and how much of that is graded dirt roads vs 2track. Hotel or camping? Steve Hello Steve Each year there is more and more pavement. It is now paved all the way from San Felipe to Gonzage Bay and about a 65 mile ride on the pavement into Bay of Los Angeles. This last year they were working on the paved road leading out of San Ignasio towards the beach. There is little doubt this will add about 35 or 40 miles of pavement before we turn back inland. 1.5 years ago when I rode down and back, there was about "maybe" 500 miles of pavement during the whole ride which makes servicing the bikes in La Paz mandatory. We know several people in La Paz making it possible to ship tires oil filters etc to La Paz. For the most part .... A majority of the rie is on two track dirt roads and usually on either the old Baja 500 or 1000 race courses. We always ride from town to town staying in motels. At the present time. We have no plans for getting the bikes back. I'm not sure if the two guys who made the trip for us this last year will be up for it again and doing the entire trip down and back takes a minimum of 14 days. Not sure what the circumstances are at the present time.
  4. Myself and two friends are planning another ride from Tecate to La Paz and "Hopefully riding back". I did this same ride 1.5 years ago from Tecate to Cabo and back. We rode our 450 KTM EXC's unsupported (no vehicle support) from the border and back (2650 miles in 14 days) We made it event free, not even a flat tire. We serviced the bikes in La Paz (Oil, filters, tires) At the present time we are seeking "two" intermediate riders with EXTREMELY well perpared bikes with a fuel range of 125 miles (minimum). This ride is not for the "easy rider type" or someone on a larger (dualsport) tour bike and you have to be capable of riding between 200 and 300 miles a day. You will need a bike to bike radio communication system compatible with ours. This is a 400 to 500 dollar radio system that is available through Baja Designs (at least the helmet set) You will also need (but not necessarily manditory) after market lighting. There is nothing worse than having to ride after dark and having to use the stock head light. (Been there done that, and it doesn't work. Trust me) There is a whole laundry list of necessities one will need for this ride. This last April when we rode one way down, we boarded an airplace and flew home and our bikes returned on a trailer. We paid two good friends to drive a truck down and bring our bikes back. This arrangement has not been confirmed at this time and we are seriously considering riding down and back again. Should you be interested please get back with me. joejacksonjr@aol.com
  5. I know this is an extremely short notice but and I'm looking for 1,2,or 3 intermediate riders with extremely reliable bikes that have a minimum of 100 mile fuel range who would like riding from the Border in Tecate to world famious MIKE's SKY RANCH via the old Baja 500 race course !! I have made this ride literally hundreds of times and know the route well. There is some pavement out of Tecate and a short distance between the bottom of the Goat Trail and Valley Trinidad (not sure of the spelling) but it is approximately 175 miles each way. Staying at Mikes cost $70.00 per rider and includes a room, shower and meals. I originally had plans for myself and two other guys but their wifes had other opinions. You will need a passport and border crossing pass. Your bike does not have to be street legal and getting back across the Border is a breeze (with current registration)I can be reached at (619) 316-6500 Thanks Joe

    North County ride anyone?

I'm planning on riding to Mike's Sky Ranch this coming weekend (over-night) You need to be an experienced rider with a well maintained dirt bike with a minimum of 100 mile fuel range. I will be riding down on the old Baja 500 race course and there will be about 45-50 miles of pavement. Riding 175+ miles a day. (619) 316-6500 Joe Jackson

Sounds good. Like I said, I don't know too many areas around here. All te areas we rode in high school are closed down now. I was looking into Nate Harrison Grade. But I'm not sure. I've been riding for about 10 years now so I'm down to get into some technical.
