Where to ride in North County?
Afry replied to CL300CAPT's topic in Informal Local Rides & Who's Going Riding!
If you have a droid do yourself a favor and spend the one time $20 fee and start riding the trails available on dualsportmaps.com. I find it's just as handy as my gps but bigger screen, only drawback is your phone is on your bars (ram mount). -

You know about his mtn bike skills right? I'm pretty sure he has spent more time flying down hills than the average guy! -

Didn't know it was October already! how ironic... started on Cigarette Hill.... Winds are blowing there... CAL FIRE/SDCFA is on scene of a brush fire off Banner Grade on Cigarette Hill (TB Map 1136 E6) east of Julian. The fire began about 2:14 p.m. Evacuations are being ordered for the Shelter Valley area. S-2 is being closed between Scissors Crossing and Shelter Valley. Highway 78 and S-22 are also being closed in the fire area. Red Cross is setting up an evacuation center at the Borrego Springs High School. San Diego Sheriff's Department is handling evacuations and Animal Control is being contacted for animal evacutions. Update at 4:19 p.m: This fire is now 1,000 acres, spreading rapidly, with a west wind pushing the fire to the east. The fire is now burning onto Granite Peak. The fire is burning grass within last year's Great Fire. The Incident Commander has ordered 10 more engines, 4 more fire crews, 2 additional helicopters, 4 additional bulldozers and 4 additional water tenders. Information courtesy of Cal Fire

I am assembling a small first aid kit for single day dual sport rides - sometimes solo. I already carry SPF 40 lotion, duct tape, a knife, fire starter, space blanket and Aleve. Trying to keep it simple so I always have it. (1) 4" Israeli bandage (1) 6" Israeli bandage (4) large Band-Aids (4) Butterfly's (2) 4'x4' gauze pads Tweezers Razor blade Safety pin Couple Pepto Bismol tabs A few asprin I don't feel I need to get crazy with antiseptic this and that because the goal is to stop the bleeding etc and get out or till help arrives. What am I missing that can't do without?

funny... I was with him when he needed that splint walker broke his leg... and his foot... hell; everything below the knee he was about 1/4 mile up a bumpy fire road from the nearest pavement... everybody is giving advice (bad advice mainly) until the paramedics get there... they're professionals... they are trained an equipped... they'll splint his leg, then get him in the 4x4, then down to the waiting ambulance.. "guys.. let's splint him" "uh... anybody have a splint?" None of the Ranger/CHP/Medic guys did, but bowers did... I carry a long crescent wrench and some duct tape; close enough Good story, a couple tire irons would do in a pinch

Is there a place in town you can get them or did you get them through amazon , etc. .... Thanks. Ebay, (2) 4" & (2) 6" for $20 delivered - one set for each bike.

Super glue is much cheaper then Celox but Celox is also useful for clotting. I might bite the bullet on this.

What size? 9"? Gloves were a good suggestion as well - thanks!

When was that? Be very careful with this. I wouldn't go without a passport or card but unless you go alot the card isn't worth the money imho. Technically you need a visa - they are now requiring this for daily fishing trips into Mx waters but this is a political deal on the water. -

I just talked to Packard's and they said that she will have an extra girl working Sat morning AND if you mention my name (Arnie) they will give you 10% off any coffee drink (not plain coffee). FYI - I didn't have anything to do with deciding where the meeting place was to be for this ride but since I know the owners I asked for a little help for you guys that drink coffee with your little pinky in the air. I ride a klr so fancy coffee's are not an option for me...bread and water budget only. -

I agree about going south - Consider camping up at Laguna Campgrounds - should be cooler. I checked their site and no groups sites but about 40+ sites available on Sat. 7/21 as an example. $20 per site (plus a booking fee of $9) up to 8 people and 2 vehicles (surcharge for more vehicles). Has real shitters and pay showers. http://www.reserveam...o&parkCode=lagn -
