  3. Nice ride today With an onshore breeze the clouds worked their way into jamul around 8 am and it was 49 degrees when I left, but I had faith in the east county weather GoofyFooter showed up for some Starbucks chat and was in search of a new clutch lever when Bakertool11 rolled up on the (very clean) DR350 a few minutes later With a quick snack and a cup of joe, we were off... We wondered through backroads of Jamul and into lawson valley, found some dirt roads and grassy fields... the clouds were giving way to warm haze found this rock to stop and shed a layer with a few virgin dirt miles under the DR's belt with only minor superficial jamulian wounds ...... - we were off to Otay apparently they have been working on the road up from Thousand trails there were parked gravel and water trucks with some big graders up on the first landing, pretty smooth for the first mile or so we made it to the antennas, the dog house then the cross with out seeing 1 BPA - super quiet out there today ] a little haze to steal some of the visibility, but it had its own beauty as usual Great Job Bakertool good riding - hope to see you out there again soon
  4. sorry for the delay Still plan on meeting at Starbucks Sat morning http://maps.google.c...628680300591083 10:00 casual start currently the sky is blue in Jamul with minimal high clouds - 65 degrees today

    Calcite Mine

The part ( I don't care for ) about getting a little older is if I sit to long my back hurts, if I stand to long my knees feel it................ My back feels about 120 after that ride for some reason - Danrider sorry you missed it, I have a trials tire on the back that needs to be replaced bad, though I was very impressed with how it handled in the deeper sand areas - as long as I did not come to a stop and will replace it with the same one - Pirelli MT 43 Trials Rear Tire Great day all around as usual - getting warm out there Hopefully some of this precipitation will make its way east

    Trail Ninja

Hmmm I did not see any camera, the follower obviously just followed the rider in front I like to take pictures, but would have never considered being under a pile of leaves inches from a MTX single track.......
  13. Another beautiful day in Jamul Not realizing my tank was close to empty, made a quick and chilly ride to the gas station to top off - sure was not dressed properly for the 16 mile early morning road ride Met up with Beezzz & CVRick in Jamul at 0900 Warmed up with a little single track and dirt roads to access the back of Lawson Valley, thousands of acres of green grassy fields and random tracks to play on Soon to be summited Sycuan Mountain top left Headed back out through local single track and accessed the trail to Sycuan Peak one of the more difficult routes in the neighborhood I did not do such a great job leading up that, actually it was slightly embarrassing missing a key turn around some massive erosion, we will go to the "video tape" for that.... Rick on-sited it with no problem and then Beezzz and I got past the crux and stopped for a few photos looking WSW through Lawson Valley with San Miguel to the right with Otay range to the left a mile or 2 more and we summited the peak and took a well needed break - great view even with the haze looking north, great shot of Cuyamaca in the background, with a little bit of snow still up there Rick trying to blend in with local foliage looking east in to the back of Lawson Valley and beyond Los Pinos in the back center, Corte Madera to the left - Gaskill peak center right, right of that is Lawson peak and Mother Grundy looking NNE with Viejas mountain in front of Cuyamaca with Loveland reservoir in the foreground soaking in a beautiful day From there we headed back down to the single track for a few more laps and put Rick in a good spot to bail showing the guys a hill I have yet to climb..... that has been on my radar for a while, we made it to the top and went down it Then Beezzz eyed it up, and with no hesitation showed me how to climb it..... I figured another day - but it was very tempting, as the conditions were about as good as it could possibly get Rick and I both had that look in our eye like "we have to go to work tomorrow" Rick peeled off, and headed home... Beezzz and I headed out for more local exploration maybe another 20 miles or so, with not that many pictures...but a great place to stop for a snack and a rest in the sun as we heading home we were "forced" to ride the well groomed and tacky single track again we got to the pavement..... he made the left, I made the right - it was great day still had minimal dirt to cover before I got home, the light was good wanted to catch a few shots of a rock in the backyard This shot was for Bagstr...that was about as muddy as I could get my bike, as It drains very well in the DG - there were a few slippery spots on the ST here and there, with minimal puddles.... Thanks again for coming out, and look forward to the next time......

    Jamul

The neighborhood trail system is quite small actually, but when pieced together you can put some mileage on the "secret single track" is a combination of trails that is accessible via "secret double track" that can only be found when riding on "secret fire roads"................... it has taken a few years to piece it together - with out ending up in someones back yard...(thats the real secret) I feel fortunate to get my fix locally and enjoy showing people around, the obvious concern is TO MUCH traffic and compromising the local access / permission though done correctly and with a some neighborly etiquate there are good times to be had that Jamul ride was 80 miles and there was another 20 or 30 at least that was left unridden

  18. Hi Looking to get a few hours in on the local Jamul trails tomorrow, Wednesday leap day... Roughly 50 miles of exploration on my radar, including dirt roads, single track, grassy fields and anything else that legally catches the eye - minimal pavement Open to expanding the range and difficulty, big bikes would be a challenge - more details to those interested

Pay extra for good tie downs

Being a rigger by trade and having hung several million LBS all I can say is you get what you pay for the load ratings are listed on those items, but I ALWAYS build in a personal safety factor = considered to be a SHOCK LOAD - not mention the legality of causing a freeway accident I usually tie a half hitch with remaining strap, and jam it into the cam of the ratchet for added security regardless of rating unfortunately I have been trained to assume the worst case scenario, thats how I treat suspended elements over peoples heads But my orange baby is right up there with one of the more valuable possessions RD
  22. Glad you are OK I would consider you to be pretty lucky at-least you had a few brief moments of enjoyment - love the line about dancing in the streets

Think We Should Approve This New Member ?

Thats the impression I was under.. being one of the new guys on the block, I have developed some really good relationships and riding partners from joining SDAR - and would consider myself a PROUD MEMBER sometimes I ask myself, why didn't I join sooner....? It just seems rare in this day in age to find a group of people (like SDAR) that have real valuable input & experiences and generate an honest open arm welcome to new members we unfortunately live in a "high tech" world that seems to require instant approval for anything we do, as most of you will read this from some electronic device in your pocket or purse 30 seconds after I press "add reply" what ever happened to ------- patience is a virtue & all good things come to those who wait thats how I was brought up - my vote is in, and obviously this is just my .02 PS: The phrase "patience is a virtue" is just a way of expressing the importance of being patient. A virtue is a trait or quality deemed to be morally excellent and thus is valued as a foundation of principle and good moral being. Patience can make us better people. The definition of the word is to tolerate delay implying self control and forbearance. When we say "patience is a virtue" we are exposing our moral values and expressing the importance of patience as a foundation of principle. So to answer the question patience is not a virtue until it truly becomes a virtue and knowing how diverse the spectrum of individualism is I'm sure patience is a vice(opposite of virtue) to some. Patience is a necessity for a happy existence and that is why the phrase is so often used.
