  1. Thanks to all for a great ride. Thanks especially to DD for leading the ride, and taking out 2 pesky Kawi 250's at once. Way to take one (two) for the team. From Poway back to Poway I put in 210 miles, had to brave the freeway w/my 450 for the last 20 miles because I couldn't bear anymore seat time. I will post some pics soon.

  2. Well I'm still a noob. After living in Hidden Meadows for the last 20 years and driving to work down Deer Springs to Twin Oaks every day I still call the exit wrong. I had ment Deer Springs at the 15. This would be a better exit to meet at if it works for everyone else. There is a dirt spot right at the top of the exit that would be visable to all. If not I can still meet at Gopher Canyon.

    Chris

I know the spot. No problem for me.

If you know the spot let's meet there at 7:15 and stage for 5min. It's getting near ride time let's not make too many more changes. I don't want to screw anyone else up.

  3. I'm probably in for this ride. I live up in Hidden Meadows north of Esco so I'd like to meet up with the Esco guys at the 15 and Twin Oaks exit if this is OK.

    Chris

Well I am certainly confused. I guess we could meet at the Shell station at 7 then ride up to Gopher canyon Park and Ride at 7:15 to pick up the Hidden Meadows crowd and see if we can still meet Doug in Fallbrook by 8. By the way - Via Rancho was Called Bear Valley Pkwy in my day. (Old school jargon)

I suggest we wait no longer than 10 minutes for stragglers, otherwise we will become stragglers ourselves.

    Anybody concur?

    I'm in.

  4. Cool I got the hall pass!I'm in Escondido and would like to meet up for the ride to fallbrook! any takers?

I will probably be leaving Escondido around 7am. How about the Shell station (I think it is a Shell) on Bear Valley Pkwy & I-15 across from North County Mall? We can decide whether to do the Twin oaks Valley route or slab it depending on how prompt we can leave.

Just to make sure, you meant Via Rancho exit off of the 15. I'm in for 7am at the Shell.

  5. I'm in for the Fallbrook to Corona Ride. I'm coming from Poway, do you want to meet before Fallbrook like Esc. or somewhere in San Marcos? Looks like there's some fun back roads to Fallbrook on the East side of Pendelton.

It's your ride, sounds like a good route. I'd suggest meeting at Carl's Jr in Fallbrook (GOOGLE MAPS LINK HERE) and hitting the road early (8am worked for us). I'd probably skip Margarita Peak, as well as lunch at Hell's Kitchen(maybe hit it on the way back instead) in the interest of time.

Here's the general route in Google maps: LINK HERE

Let me know if that's what you're thinking about.

Sounds great to me. Thanks for all of the planning. 8am Carl's Jr in Fallbrook. Are we taking asphalt back, different trails or back tracking?

  6. Hey there BS or DD, Do you have any ideas for start time and location? I will be dual sporting the whole way so I can meet anywhere.

Where are you coming from and what do you want to check out? The other question is how much time to people have?

There are really two rides you can do up here in North County. The Ramona Loop: Another Big Bike Ride - Toro Peak and the Fallbrook to Corona Ride that are all-day type rides. Everything else up here is shorter stuff (Nate Harrison - 8 miles long, etc) and has a bit of pavement thrown in.

Take a look and see which interests you and we can come up with a meeting place/time and go from there.

  7. there was a post that this was moved to the 15th... maybe some edits and clarification are in order... Ralphie; dug;don;hoss;christi

I am in for the 15th, and maybe in for the 22nd too...unless I decide to do a more serious dirt ride, in which case, I'll update this post

  8. I could be talked into a ride this weekend!

Let me know what your details are. My little bike is down for a rebuild, so I'll be on the 950 if the route will tolerate a big bike.

Since I'm following and don't know the area, tell me when and where. Beggars can't be choosers. And while your at it, make it a ride that will accomodate your 950. I'll be happy just seeing some new terrain.

  9. I can lead the ride out S2 to Blair Valley, Diablo Drop-Off, Split Mountain, Split Mountain Road, Ocotillo Wells. or, If someone else would like to lead a ride in the Palomar Mountain Area I would be happy to follow. I don't know any trails other than around Ocotillo Wells and wouldn't mind exploring new territory other than OW.

were you thinking of doing this ride at night? Or, baking during the day?

Baking sounds so negative. How about saute? (Translated=day ride.)I thought Palomar area might be cooler, but either way we could start out early and as long as we keep moving it shouldn't be too bad. Okay, I just looked at the weather on Sat and it's going to hit 110 in OW, that's baking. Palomar is going to be 95, would you mind leading a ride around there?

  10. ride update?

  11. Is anyone up for a ride somewhere in the North County 8/15? I would prefer mostly dirt, but any seat time would be great.

    RIDE UPDATE:

    Ride Sunday August 15

Leave from Shell Gas Station at Via Rancho and 15(East side next to Chevron) promptly at 7am

    Onto Carl's Jr in Fallbrook

Leave promptly at 8 a.m. and ride to Corona

Have enough gas, food/snacks and water for 70ish miles of riding

  12. We have some gear for him, a bike for him (he's on his own for pants undies and socks)

He will be in town July 18th and I said I would show him around- I think he is near downtown, so if anybody from that area wants to pick him up, that would be one less concern (finding my house in redneck central)

I would like to get a group of 5 or so, and keep the speeds halfway up. Let him decide when he wants to take pics etc. Location will partially depend on the weather. North County or East County...if its East I'll pick the route (advice is always welcome even if my sarcastic responses imply otherwise)I think pine valley up to sunrise, around to Corral would give him a good perspective about San Diego at large

Ready to Ride at 6:30 AM. Pine Valley cul-de-sac (you need an Adventure Pass to park there) Option: DS out or park behind Majors in PV & ride over.

Current plan: Street to Morena Stokes, in to Kernan, up to 4 corners. Trail 1 to Bobcat & roll the dice.

Where exactly is Pine Valley Cul de Sac (yes, yes, in Pine Valley, but specifically)? I looked on Google maps and was not sure. Does Majors get upset if you park there? I'll be in a Honda Pilot with a rack in the receiver.

  13. Do most people trailer to the meeting area? I'll be coming from Poway.

I dislike towing my bike to the ride, but it is a great option for when you are going from Poway to Pine Valley. On the Freeway it takes me about an hour (and I have a heavy right foot), on the DRZ it takes even longer (and fists are made of ham). Doing the whole route from my house offroad is a project I am still working on.

If you want to ride share we could meet at the Sabre Springs/Ted Williams Parkway HOV lot. PM me if interested.

Thank you for the offer, I think I'll truck myself in the first ride. I like the sound of parking outside and taking the short trip in to the meet spot. See you in the crack of the a.m. on Sunday.
